[Trade] Toffoli to Flames for 2022 1st *, 2023 5th, Heineman, and Pitlick

I really like this move. It's not an "omg we stole him" sort of thing, but its a fair price for fair return.

I do find it interesting how HF Boards went from "Habs only trade Toffoli if it's Pelletier + 1st, no reason to rush a trade" to "Flames got fleeced"

Yeah I still think this is a very bizarre move from us. If we somehow collapse and get a top 10 pick this year that triggers protection, we will most certainly be awful the following year and giving up a pick in a way better draft.

But, such a strange thing to complain about as it seems to be quite unlikely.

I like Toffoli but still a steep price for a career 50 point guy who will be 30 when the playoffs start. Certainly don't think it's a steal of a trade.

More importantly this likely means no big upgrade at C and we are riding with Backs as the 2nd line C.

I've said for years this team can be a legit Cup contender if Backlund was the clear 3rd line C but unfortunately that's still not the case.

I think all in all it’s a fair price. Hate to be the Debbie Downer but this isn’t the same Toffoli from the past. I think they’re getting a decent 2nd liner here and more of a Sutter player which is good, though personally I wished that first was used on a guy with more offensive upside. Not a complaint, as I think it was fair, but I’m hoping for more offensively as that will still be a problem in the playoffs where skill and determination are both needed. Toffoli has the determination. Not sure he has the high end skill this team still needs.

The only thing is Monahan plays bumper and I would think Toffoli plays one of the outside spots on the power play. Unless perhaps you move Lindholm to Monahan’s spot and Toffoli to Lindholm’s.
