Camping, or more specifically RVing
Alright so its pretty nice out today and the snow is melting.
I am pretty much done with winter, had enough too long!
so, this got me thinking about the upcoming camping/rv season.
so who camps and where do you go to camp?
what do you like to while you are camping? fishing, sitting around a fire drinking? hiking? water skiing?

We have a 16 ft hybrid that we drag around all parts of southern AB and BC in the summer time.
My wife usually picks a place and I just drive......
Anywhere from eagle lake by Strathmore to a couple of places on Lake Koocanusa.
Drumheller, Sundre, Waiporous, McLean Creek, Cypress Hills......
I've been everywhere man...
Usually centered around stuff for my kids.
Personally I'm happy sitting around a campfire, drinking and making noise on my 6 string........

We usually try and have a few family vacation outings every year. We pull a 23' Airstream around, and like to explore new places. It's a great way to get away from everyday work, and have some good family bonding. My eldest son (5) thinks the best part is the campfire (I think he's a pyro), marshmallow roasting and sleeping in the trailer! Activities are the usual tourist things if those are around, or just relaxing / playing in the pool etc.

We have a 27' Keystone Sprinter. Just my gf and our two dogs.
We're planning on going up north this year, either to Lesser Slave Lake or Ft.Mac, so any advice on those locations would be good.
If you're going for a week, and don't mind a bit of a drive, the Goldpanner campground east of Vernon is amazing. We spent our 10 day vacation there last year and it was amazing. It's run by a german family, and is the most well taken care of campground I think I have ever seen in my life.
They have games for all age, a cooking shelter and some nice hikes which take you down to the Monashee river where you can go panning for gold. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor activities within a 30 minute drive of the campground.
But for me, when I'm camping I'd rather have a leisurely walk with the dogs, read a book, play cards...generally just relax.

not much to see in the Fort McMurray area. The one accessible lake area will no doubt be swamped by Ft McM's overflowing population. Lesser Slave may be a better option, can't say for sure as I've never been there.

I gotta get my air brake certification this year so I can drive Dad's 33 footer. I'm heading to Idaho and probably southeastern BC this year to do some mountain biking.

About 7 years me and three friends went in on a 72 Tent Trailer. She's old, with the brown/orange/tan set up for cushions, but she works. We've had to replace all the cables, sew up most of the mats, we made our own custom table, painted it a few times. Actually the last time we painted it my buddy grabbed a can of "white" paint from his basement. It was about 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday in SK so naturally we had consumed about 6 or 7 Pilsners each by this point.
Anyway, we start painting and all of a sudden the sun hits the part of the cupboard we were painting and it shows up pink, we look at the top of the paint can it says "scottish heather". My buddy didn't realise the white paint was just the base for the mix. So we just kept painting, it isn't a deep pink, but its pink. The girls seem to like it
That old TT has a lot of memories in it, 7 years and she is still going.. we use it about 3 or 4 times each year, May long, Canada day weekend, Craven and August long. I love it. Mostly hitting up Candle/Emma for lakes, with a visit to Kimball in Meadow Lake Provincial park.

My family has a big hunk of land south of Sundre, not too far from the provincial park in that area. There's even a cabin out there and outhouses... right by the river. I go there and sit and drink and pretend to fish. Though I haven't been for a while. Stupid job that makes me work weekends.

Will be heading out to Minnesota late July to spend a month with my brother at his lake house on Round lake. It's a short drive from the town of Mille Lacs - famous for the Blue Goose Inn and great Walleye fishing.

Will probably do lots of golfing and water skiing during the day. At night it's out on the pontoon boat with the BBQ and a few brewskies.

The way I camp is in my 97 Jimmy with a woman, my dog, two folding chairs, two coolers, an axe and an air mattress.
At night, the the back seats fold flat with perfect space for the double air mattress. Cozy bed for the 3 of us. Coolers get put on the front seats (nobody steals MY beer), and the windows are open just a crack.
The keys sit on teh center console with the heat on high, and if either of us wakes up cold, we just press teh button for the auto starter (that Neeper installed) and the truck runs for 10 minutes and shuts off automatically.
By day we are totally mobile. 4x4 our way down any old road we want. I've got a map of BC that is absolutely littered with secret camp spots and natural hot springs.
Nothing beats finding a new hot spring. Side of the mountain, all alone, dog running around, me and the woman ralaxing in the spring, nude, beer in hand (cans only).
Of course, tahts more of an evening activity. The day is for finding beaches. The kootenays and the shuswap are full of beautiful beaches.
You can find so many spots on crown land that are not provincial or national parks. Camp free, no paying for wood. No neighbours. Play music or just listen to nature. Let the dog roam freely... I love western Canada.
