Wonder how much Mark Scheifele would cost the Flames to get him out of Winnipeg. That is assuming the Flames are an acceptable destination for his modified NMC. He's cap controlled for another three seasons, so would assume the asking price would be pretty steep. But the Jets aren't competitive this year, so maybe they're on the market for futures?

The Flames did not have a player of this ilk that could work with Bennett, so that resulted in his departure. The Flames are better off as a result, because Bennett would NOT have achieved the same numbers in Calgary - or any other team - he has since the deal was made. If Bennett stays with the Flames, we're still wondering if Bennett will ever break out. The Flames did not have the players to make Bennett work in Calgary. Move on.

I disagree and others do too.
Coaching on the team sucked for years. Can we agree on that?
I still like Sam Bennett. Glad he is doing well with another team.
We played him with junk linemates for years. He was not a bottom six forward but we used him as one. Did he get a fair chance in Calgary?
Well Monahan was the top center and Backlund was number two. So we made him a winger. Then we signed Troy Brouwer, and James Neal. The coaches played these scrubs over Bennett. Then Steve Chiasson.
Did we mishandle Bennett?
James Neal, Troy Brouwer, and Steve Chiasson had way more opportunity than Bennett ever had.
Did we mishandle Sam Bennett? Look at the three players listed above.
Yes we screwed that up.

I know you meant Alex Chaisson, but I had to google Steve and had no idea he died at 31 years old.

Scheifle is too busy sulking in Winnipeg because he is being pushed down the lineup and thinks he is underpaid. Dont need that in Calgary

I would absolutely take that in Calgary if it meant having a legitimate #1C and a tandem of Scheifele and Lindholm down the middle lol.

I'd take Mark Fricken Scheifele.

Scheifele could certainly be a good change of scenery candidate

Scheifele has always seemed like a bit of a female canine to me.

I don’t see Winnipeg doing it unless he actually demands a trade.

Yeah where is this Scheifele speculation coming from?
That seems like a total pipe dream. And if he's available Treliving should be all over that.
At least throw his hat in the ring before he eventually ends up in New York or Vegas or wherever lol

I have heard rumours he’s unhappy and for sure he’s playing uninspired hockey this year.

Yes Scheifle does seem like a pipe dream, and can't see his contract working, unless they plan on not resigning Johnny or know they can't. At center Winnipeg would be a good partner but for Stastny or Copp. I would think they have to be also looking at Eakin (Buff), Jarnkrok/ Donato(Sea), Zaka (NJ). Could also see them going after Max Domi, would really like for them to land Getzlaf, Giroux or Pavelski.

I assume they also have to take into account the possibility that he isn't traded. With another year left on his deal, they could decide to keep him and either move him in the summer or hold on for another year.

I imagine the Ducks and Kings will be fighting until the end of the season for the third playoff spot in the division.

If Bennett was ever given an opportunity to play center with any of Johnny, Chucky, or Eatbread on his wing, I must have missed it.
Was he given significant opportunities on the powerplay? I must have missed that too.
I have a hard time believing that Benny wouldn't have been a nice fit on the 2nd line this year between Coleman and Eatbread.
That said, let's hope Backlund keeps stepping up and proving himself a worthy 2nd line center throughout the 2nd half and playoffs.
