Anyone to replace Ritchie. Toffoli is a massive upgrade there. And can be a key piece to staying competitive after this season as well. It's a really good fit.

Ritchie is a guy I can see being very valuable come playoff time. Plays heavy hockey, good skater and hits everything in sight. I wouldn't mind keeping him on the 4th line for these reasons.

Our weakest line is Monahan, Dube line. Specially Monahan. At the moment he is not scoring and not good at clearing the puck. If we could replace Monahan and Ritchie and bring real 3rd line Centre that can shut down other's top line and scoring winger to score here and there.

IMO , Monahans not the issue. It's who he is playing with. Namely Ritchie. He is death valley on that line and nothing near him survives.

Really it's getting a 2nd line centre. That puts backs as the 3rd line C. Then adding a scoring winger makes for a really good team...assuming it doesn't mess up the chemistry and the team is willing to pay the costs of those acquisitions
Saying l that I think we already have a good team, just maybe not an elite team.

Monahan doesn’t have the defensive game or skating to effectively center a third line. I don’t understand why he isn’t being tried on the wing.

If the Flames were to acquire Tyler Toffoli, I'm assuming he'd play on the 2nd line. Who would then be moved onto the third line. Coleman? Dube-Monahan-Coleman looks a lot better than Dube-Monahan-Ritchie.
One guy is a great possession player, the other has every play die on his stick.
But maybe there's a good chance Dube would be dealt in the trade.

Problem is there is not many 2nd line Centres available or doesn't want to come here and the ones who may come will cost tons of value.
So realistically we can trade for real good 3rd line C for former 1st line Centre Monahan and spend our prospect or draft for the scoring winger.

Only centre who MIGHT be available is Horvat and there's no way we're getting him.

Monahan can’t be entirely protected. Guy needs to drive some play for his price tag. Can’t have a $6m passenger on a cup team that needs every square inch of cap, especially when you have the circumvention by the heavyweight teams.

I don't know how you can break up the Mangipane-Backlund- Coleman line. They are really starting to develop some great chemistry. I think it was on the radio they mentioned the goal should be to elevate that 3rd line to a 2b line. If you can roll 3 lines and have solid contributions from the Lucic-Ruzika-Lewis line, then this team will be hard to handle.

The Flames blueline is looking solid moving forward. 3 of the top 4 are 24-25 years old and due to a recent offensive outburst Hanifin has joined Andersson and Kylington as Dmen on pace for 40+pts this year. All of these guys making less than $5M per.

Not even close. Monahan hasn’t been as good as before the ASG, his last couple games have been pretty mediocre IMO. But claiming he isn’t good at clearing the puck shows me you aren’t watching. He’s the only one on his line that actually got the puck out last night. Last night he had two great looks and was a little unlucky his first didn’t go in. His linemates are not good, at least, not a good mix with him. Dube is too far up the ice all the time, too close to the boards all the time and on the wrong side of the puck. I don’t know what Ritchie is doing most of the time.
Monahan is a positive player with most of the other players on the team, stats wise.

He ain’t a $6M player. But he’s the guy they have. It’s not like you move him out and suddenly you’re better because you aren’t spending $6M. To (a) move him and (b) get a $6M centre is pretty much impossible. And if you retain salary and get a different centre it better be one that’s better and for $3M, in order to break even on the deal.

Monahan is the type of player that needs to give the puck to someone else, and unfortunately for him, his options right now are awful. Dube and Ritchie can't do anything (I think Dube needs some confidence, Ritchie needs to get away from this team). A skilled winger on that line would be the spark Monahan needs.

I think that if you get a Toffoli, that would work. Or if you put Lucic on the line and call up Pelletier or Phillips it might be a spark.
Monahan has had a few down games in a row after a couple good performances. But I still think there’s something there. His games where he had Mangiapane instead of Dube and Lucic was on the line were excellent.

There are some of y'all are too hard on Money. His advanced numbers have cleaned up awesomely this season. He is playing with dead weight at even strength.
Then there are some of you who literally post almost exclusively (or at least 50% of your posts) about Monahan being ####. These people are cancer to our fan base. You are what cause players to not want to play in markets like this. You can go #### yourselves.

I can count 10 goals missed on ritchies stick this year. He’s gotta go and the sooner we bring in a guy like Toffoli to bump him down or out of the lineup the better IMO.

No way you touch Coleman mangiapane and Backlund line. They have been a very good 2nd line since being put together. XGF% is nearly 64% creating tons of scoring chances and giving up very little.
I’d play toffolli with monahan but give toffolli more time putting him on the top pp
Monahan can center 2nd pp

It would cost probably 1st and 2nd picks (maybe two 2nds), one of Coronato, Valimaki, Pelletier, Zary or Wolf, Dube and probably one more lesser prospect for the Flames to get both Miller and Toffoli with some sort of salary retention, but that would give Sutter a ton of options when lines/players are slumping and unreal depth for a playoff run. Keeping lines as is today, you'd end up with a Monahan/Miller - Monahan/Miller - Toffoli 3rd line and when things aren't working in one of the top two lines, you could move Toffoli or Miller up.
