Guys on 960 suggesting AV for the next coach (just a guess on their part) and that does make sense.

Makes sense bringing in AV if he's the guy they want going forward as it gives him a half season with no expectations where he can implement his system and speed up the transition so they are ready to go at the start of next season in a similar manner to what happened with the Flames and Darryl Sutter.

Is there even a point to this? They are hot-awful.

What are they going to do? Just 'Weekend at Bernie's' Scotty Bowman's corpse?

May as well just have the guy you're already paying see out the ride.

I think they’d need to first kill Scotty Bowman for this plan to work.

I was thinking the same but read Arpun Baso's piece which basically is a takedown of Ducharme and his coaching ability. If Ducharme is a head coach again, I would be surprised.

Quote:
Because they are his fault. It might not be entirely fair to blame an NHL team’s mistakes entirely on the coach. But when the same mistakes occur game after game, week after week, month after month, it is difficult to come to any other conclusion.

This is a poorly coached team.
Quote:
Ducharme loves to mention that if his players don’t kill plays when they are supposed to, then no defensive system will work. But look at this goal and ask yourself if the Canadiens appear to know what they are doing and what everyone’s responsibilities are in the defensive zone.

Its the Habs...the way they're going I'm sure that could be arranged.

Bob Hartley seems like he's having a blast coaching Avangard Omsk in the KHL.

Would love to see him back in the NHL. But he also makes for some great hockey memes.

I kind of forgot Bergervin was gone too.

That makes more sense too considering Hughes was just hired and would want to bring in his own guy potentially anyways.

I didn’t think there was a great chance to get Toffoli because Montreal rarely, if ever, rebuilds from scratch. But this looks like a rebuild from scratch move, so I’m thinking the chances to get TT have greatly improved.

Really it all comes down to what Hughes thinks of the player and his contract.

Toffoli has no trade protection so he doesn't really have a say if he gets moved or not.

If I'm Hughes I also don't love paying Gallagher (RH), Anderson (RH), Hoffman (LH), Drouin (LH), and Toffoli (RH) a combined $26.25M.

That's a lot of money on middle 6 wingers.

Some rumours on Twitter that Martin St. Louis could be named head coach.

I know Toffoli is moveable. I just figured unless they were rebuilding he was the guy they’d keep around versus really any other guy you named.

Has St. Louis been coaching at all? I thought the last was some role with the Blue Jackets.

Yea, if Hughes is smart he does his damndest to try and move Anderson and Drouin and keep Toffoli. They're likely harder to move though.

It's tough to say.

If I'm Montreal I move the guy who has the most value right now, and hope the other guys bounce back.

You'd be selling a little high on Toffoli, vs selling low on any of Drouin, Anderson, Hoffman, or Gallagher.

Hoffman was just a horrible signing that never made sense for that team, barf.

Nashville of the last couple years is a good example...Duchene, Johansen, and Granlund all looked cooked, and now they've bounced back huge this year. I think if I'm Nashville I'm trying to sell high on those guys this offseason.

Yea I suppose you're right about selling low on Anderson n such. hmmm....tough call indeed. And teams are probably chomping at the bit moreso for Toffoli thna others...

According to Elite Prospects, St. Louis' only coaching experience is with his sons' minor teams.
