They had a poor collection of assets lol. That's why Vegas took the pending UFA instead of dipping into the pile of garbage

I was just thinking to myself, "I sure wish I could revisit the exact same conversation that occurred around Eichel for months" and low and behold here we are. Awesome...

Being a fan of the flames is pretty much discussing the same 5 or 6 things in perpetuity though
It's pretty bad when the choking early 90s seems like a good time most years in comparison

It doesn't have to be that way.
Some of us enjoy it and find interesting things to discuss.
Others choose to wallow in negativity and repeat the same tired complaints.
Which is their right.
But man what a boring and sad place to be.
And frankly I don't have a lot of time for people who try to drag others into their negative space.

Not a one of those assets would be more valuable in the pursuit of a Stanley cup over the next 5 years as a collective core of Eichel, Gaudreau, Lindholm and Tkachuk.
When you acquire Eichel, you give Gaudreau and Tkachuk a plausible reason to stay. You have a coach who’s won two titles on the last ten years, you have Vezina level goaltending from Markstrom, and the defense can get you the puck.
You can roll four stars across two lines.
I also would be trading 1sts and 2nds every year for actual NHL talent, rather than hoping some kid is going to be ready to play a significant role in the post season at 20.
The fans would rage.
But the core would be Eichel, Gaudreau, Lindholm and Tkachuk up front, Markstrom in goal, with a solid blue line and Darryl behind the bench.
Let’s go.

How are we still speculating packages for Eichel months after the trade?

A. Buffalo wanted Tuch, not Mangiapane.
B. You need to dump more cap.

Now let’s take a package from there and go get Barzal or Larkin or something like that. Wouldn’t even be opposed to a Hanifin upgrade but I’m not sure what’s out there.

They turn down eight pieces, including five 1sts, plus a goalie prospect, in favour of four?
I buy they just liked one package over the other straight across - Mangiapane + Zary vs Tuch/Krebs.
I don’t think they would’ve turned down twice the haul.
It hardly matters at this point.

Eichel discussion around what could/should have happened is pointless at this point and honestly can’t we be happy with having the current best 200 foot line in the game right now?? Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk is playing like Marchand - Bergeron - Pastarnak right now and we should be loving every second of it.
This team is a Toffoli type acquisition away from being extremely scary especially if Backlund has his customary 2nd half surge and Coleman finds his playoff swagger. This team is building incredible layers and the Gudbranson moment with O’Brien and Coleman’s moment with Crouse and turning it into a mega hit and 4-2 clincher just speaks volumes about how Sutter has this team thinking. Incredible to watch so enjoy it!! Who gives a #%^* about Eichel?

Kessel please. Perhaps a buy low situation with his current cold streak, but still a super dangerous player in the O-zone. He would be a huge upgrade on Dube/Ritchie on the 3rd line and PP2.
