It wouldn't be a popular idea, but if you want to keep Tkachuk and Johnny it might be a good idea to sell high on Mangiapane. Pick up some cost controlled players with high upside. Solves some of the cap issues for next year.
Andrew Mangiapane (ouch)
Glenn Gawdin (another team would give him a real look)
Tyler Pitlick (he is a guy who plays hockey)
for
Filip Zadina (left handed plays both wings)
Jon Berggren (LHRW)
Vlad Namesnikov (Sutter style plays all positions who is UFA)

Barf, we are giving up the best player by far in that deal. And nothing we are getting back is a sure thing.
Berggren is a nice prospect but isn't a blue chip.
Zadina honestly is a project at this point and has shown nothing at the NHL level. He's skating by on his draft position at this point.
Namesnikov is meh.

Unless ANA goes into a prolonged skid, they are not going to be sellers. And considering the trade deadline is only 16 games away for them, the chances that they fall out of the picture in that amount of games, is pretty low.
|
And even if they do decide to sell, it's unlikely they would do it in division/conference unless the offer is an overpay clearly better than offers outside the division.
It's actually going to be a problem with a lot of the big name rentals.
Hertl, Rakell, Pavelski, Klingberg ....even if these teams decide to sell, I don't think they are going to want to trade in the division/conference.

Mangiapane for Pavelski, 1 for 1.
Fixes the centre void.
Two months ago, Mangiapane was on the Long List for Canada’s Olympic team. Since then, he has like three goals.
Give this core one last shot before Gaudreau walks, and you’re forced to trade Lindholm and Tkachuk.
If you win, great. Maybe it convinces people to stay.
If not, it’s a good time to rebuild with generational centres coming available in the next few drafts.

Flames are not in a position to do a one for one with a current top 9 player. The whole point is that they need to ADD a top 9.
And even ignoring that fact, no to trading Mangiapane for a guy who will be 38 in July

Not a blockbuster pickup by what about Calle Jarnkrok... a versatile 3rd liner, can play all positions, has some offensive upside and is Lindholm's cousin.

I could definitely see him being a target for a late pick to fill in on the third or fourth line

Pavelski is twice the player Mangiapane will ever be. It's not that bad if we are going to lose gaudreau, might as well go all in. Rather that than Pelletier and a 1st or something. Turn around and flip valimaki for kapanen. Then rebuild if gaudreau leaves because after 8 years all this gm has managed is a flimsy house of cards that is dependent on gaudreau being here No Johnny is going to make you all pine for the young guns instead of what's ahead

There is no point in keeping Mangiapane either way. If we keep 13 and 19, he's redundant. If we lose either/both, it's time to rebuild unless you think a team with Mangiapane as a top forward has potential lol
Redundant or sign him 6x 6m and be subjected to 6 75-85 point seasons, drafting 10th-15th...

LOL
Mangiapane is not redundant.
That is quite the take.
He is a tremendous producer for a second line role - really hard player to replace. Trading him away because you think he's redundant, is just ridiculous

Wouldn’t it be better to move Mangiapane for future assets than trade him for a 37 year old who will walk in the summer? Talk about pissing away assets to make the team slightly better. This team needs to add and they can’t subtract from their top players to do it.

Treliving has painted the team into a corner. Enjoy this season folks. Who knows what this team will look like in 18 months, but it ain't looking good.

Mangiapane's cooldown has me hopeful we could score him at like 5 mil x 3 years. That would be a big win. Similar to the Mike Hoffman contract progression. Then we could trade him before next one is up.

I have no problem with trading Mangiapane while his value is high. Not sure what he can get though.
As for other targets: I still think the Flames should try and pick up Konecny or Hischier.
It would also be really great if the Flames can rid themselves of Monahan, Lucic, and Backlund contracts.
Speaking of which... what about a deal around Monahan and Konecny? Two players that can use a change.

I’m not against moving Mangiapane, but not for a 37 year old Pavelski. In any case, he can be moved in the off-season. We have to add to our scoring wingers, not subtract/replace

To me the dream scenario would be adding a 2nd line C and winger to the team while subtracting Monahan from the roster. If we could push Backlund and Coleman down to the 3rd line and add new linemates for Mangiapane on the second line this team would be an extremely tough come playoff time.
I would have interest in Garland, Kapanen, Debrusk as the second line winger and it is tougher to see who would be available at center. I would try and keep our top prospects but would be open to moving picks, Dube and Valimaki if need be

Goes hand-in-hand with being a Flames fan for 40 years. They never seem to find a way to maintain control of their own destiny. Everything that should work in their favor they somehow find a way to make it work against them. It's just the way the team is, has been, and likely always will be. Success seems to be a foreign concept to this organization. The only thing worse than Treliving's handing of the current situation was Risebrough's handling of the remnants of the cup team. Risebrough at least had an excuse for his bungling.
