Reading the Canucks thread on HF it seems like some think Rutherford is going to start making moves and Jimmy loves to trade. He wants to make a cap cushion. Miller and Horvat have the same term left on their deals and similar money. I would be happy with either but feel like Horvat would be a good Sutter type player.
I would be willing to throw a lot for Miller. Exactly what the team needs. Tkachuk would get traded for. A right wing or futures and long and short term the team looks better

I was thinking the same thing. What a great add for the second line RW position and restricted asset. What would he cost? And any idea on the "puck moving D-man" were searching for?

Sorry what do you mean Tkachuk would be traded for? For Miller?

Miller is a left shot

Poorly worded. Tkachuk would be traded separately to make the number work.
Johny/lindholm
Miller/ eat bread
Top two pairings.

Then trade tkachuk for a right wing on the top line or whoever the chemistry mix is. Would insert Horvat in for Miller as well.

Understood. Personally I hope to keep Tkachuk myself than make those moves.

Is Miller a center? It seems like he is always on the wing when I have watched him play? I see him listed as one on HockeyDB.

Miller is 5 years older than Tkachuk so I do t like the thought of making that swap unless the Flames get an amazing young piece for Chucky.

If the Flames pay futures and do not have the Tkachuk-Gaudreau framework at least in place then I think they need to stick in the small pond instead of going after the big fish

Also why I would happily swap out out Horvat in this situation but locking up Center long term is going to be a problem here short and long term in the very near future.

If all things were equal I would drop both in the ditch if Barzal was disgruntled in New York. Can’t think of anyone else I would stack in that calibre but Vancouver looks like they will make a move here so hence my take. However the longer I think about it Horvat is a lot younger, but again secondary choices.

Mangiapane could really really benefit from a guy like JT Miller.

As more of a playmaker, Mangi could focus his game on being the trigger man for that pairing.

I'm watching the Avs/Bruins game right now, and one guy who I wonder about constantly is Tyson Jost. If the Avs bring in some depth before the deadline, perhaps they would be willing to part with him? Especially now that Newhook is a regular.

He's an Alberta boy, 23 years old, selected 10th overall by the Avs in 2016. I still think there's a real player there-watching him now, you can see the skill and speed, and he works hard. I think he would benefit from a change. Plays C too.

I like both and think both would thrive under Sutter.
I'd take Miller if I had to pick, but I can't see the Canucks trading to us right now.
First big move as a new GM, too risky to trade with a close divisional rival.

I like bring here Laine too. He looks like a players who is lost. But if he come back to a hockey market and play for a team with a coach who can help him, he may become a great player for us.

Both great players. But man Bo Horvat, I’ve liked his game every since his rookie season. Thought he was an impact maker in the 14-15 playoffs against the Flames. He seems to have every attribute Backlund has but better. What a perfect second like center he would’ve been for us. But both guys are a pipe dream, the Canucks aren’t trading either of these two to a rival and I’ve read/heard a lot teams have called about both of them and we don’t have the assets to outbid everyone else.

Agreed, Bo Horvat hands down for me. The Canucks would never trade him within the division though.

Yep definitely not. Honestly though, I haven't watched JT Miller much. My opinion could change, but some of those playoff goals Horvat scored were unbelievable. I think he might've singlehandedly carried the Canucks past the Blues.

Can't see either player being traded to us, but it would be hard to choose between the two. Miller has been the better offensive player in the last 3 years by a fair margin, both in the regular season and playoffs. Horvat would be the better two-way guy, and he's 2 years younger-which is worth something. Both are about the same size, both play with grit, but Miller is the better skater. If we're just going for a rental, Miller might be the playmaking offensive C we need right now....

Just looking at the eastern conference standings and it’s interesting… can’t remember the last time that the playoffs looked so clear so early. The team holding down the last wild card spot is the bruins and they have a 9 point cushion on the next closest team, the red wings, with 3 games in hand as well.

I know there’s lots of season left and some teams could take a big drop and/or teams could go on a big run… but the gap is large. So large that you could pretty much lock in every team in the east that is making the playoffs right now. I can’t remember that happening very often this early in a season for either conference. Usually there is at least a few teams fighting for that last spot. Teams that wouldn’t be sellers at the deadline as they try to make a push to get in.

I think this means that there will be a lot of sellers at the trade deadline this year. I think the following teams can already be confirmed as sellers right now:

Red Wings
Blue Jackets
Islanders
Devils
Flyers
Sabres
Senators
Canadiens
Blackhawks
Kraken
Coyotes

I think more western teams will be added to that list soon (the Canucks once they fall back to earth which is any day now). But, for now, that’s a lot of teams to look at for possible trade partners. Good to look at players on each of these teams with upcoming UFA status either this year or next year as potential targets.

Default 2021/2022 Trade Speculation and Rumours

What would be the cost of acquiring Tage Thompson out of Buffalo? Would he even be available?

24 years old
Former first round pick (26th overall in 2016)
6’7” right winger/center that skates very well.
Producing well this year on a bad team with 14 goals and 14 assists in 39 games.
Small cap hit ($1.3 million) and signed till end of next year when he’ll be an RFA.

I think all those have the makings for a decent target. Especially for playoffs. And it shouldn’t prevent the flames from signing Gaudreau and Tkachuk in the offseason.

Again, I have no idea if he’s even available and no idea what the cost would be. Haven’t watched many Sabres games this year but when I have, he does stand out with his skating, size, and skill. Plus he’s an American which fits with the American/Swedish theme the flames have going on.

Anyone with better insight on this player and the sabres would probably know better than I do if he is even worth acquiring or if the would cost too much.
