Official attendance on the NHL game sheet was 9,639, or about 50% of capacity.

No way that many people were actually at the game though…

Me too. 600 bucks down the drain for two games I can’t and/or don’t want to go to. I can’t even give the tickets away.

We had pretty much decided that we were going to go in any case. Looking at the Ottawa game I think we will be OK in terms of distancing from others. I'm just that much of a live sports fan that I would like to attend another game; haven't been since Carolina.

Might also be a good opportunity to upgrade seats for cheap.

My tickets for the Ottawa and the Florida games were relinquished. If I was home, I probably would have went (and grumbled about no concessions), but considering I’m away I feel fortunate to have been selected.

Just curious as I'm not STH bit if you don't renew next season would they provide you with a refund for the games missed or would you just have to eat that loss? Have they disclosed that in terms for these games?

In the past they have always told people who cancel that they would get any deposits back. However I am thinking with how there isn't really a wait list any longer, that could change. I also note that they have been very careful in their wording; being very specific that the credit goes towards 2022-23.

“As part of the plan to meet our 50% capacity limitation, we are offering the opportunity for a small number of Season Ticket Members to voluntarily raise their hands to potentially relinquish their tickets to a game, in exchange for a one game credit toward their 2022-23 renewal.”

The “one game credit” wording is interesting, which could indicate you eat the loss if you don’t renew. I’m just guessing though.

Yeah, I’m stuck with my tickets this time.

…I love how they phrase it as if we aren’t getting ripped off for being STHs:

We thank you for your generosity in volunteering, and can report that we have been able to reach 50% capacity without needing to relinquish your tickets.

For those that aren't renewing, they should be giving cash back.
May need to roll your sleeves with a Statutory Chargeback with your credit card.

I was able to get Ottawa relinquished not Florida. I am not renewing next year so assume I will get a full credit after the fact?

That's $1800 if you include preseason games. And there is more interest in preseason games.

One might assume that, but this whole thing is unprecedented so I don’t know if you can say you’ll 100% get a refund. Might be worth asking your account rep if you think you’re not going to renew next year.

FWIW, I chose not to renew my Stampeders season tickets for 2022. I had a credit from 2021 because we didn’t host a home playoff game (which had been included in the total cost), and they said I would get a refund for that amount. I think they’re more upfront about it in that case though (since hosting a home playoff game is never guaranteed); this situation is a bit more unique…

My guess is they will do the same for the season ticket holders, like myself, who paused for the whole year. It will go towards next season's tickets or, if you decide to pull the plug they will offer it as a credit towards any future CSEC events. Which I will probably have to fight, because I don't think I will be renewing next season and I want my $2000 back, not a credit.

I'm also not too sure how valid this would be anyway, as none of this was in writing or anything communicated over email. Just a conversation over phone with a season ticket rep as they were making things up on the fly.

It’s looking like the straw that broke the camels back for renewals is on the horizon.

As much as this would suck from a business perspective for the Flames I feel that a smart move would have been to offer an option to release STH for the second half of the season and credit them for next year. Maybe they could maintain some goodwill with STH in that scenario.

It would simply suck too much from a business perspective to even consider.

I assume that between the Covid situation right now and the arena deal the relationship between the Flames and STHs is very poor. It feels like dark days ahead.

For all the missteps of this organization that is simply absurd to suddenly give the entire basis of your annual revenue a free out for the rest of the year. No sports organization on the planet would do that, that's crazy.
