Well it sounds like a Covid outbreak for Spurs. Apparently 6 players and 2 coaches have tested positive, but they’ll have PCR tests tomorrow. Apparently the players are Son, Lucas, Gil, Emerson, Romero and Davies. That would be a big issue for us, as Reguilon was hurt on Sunday as well. This poses interesting problems for the match against Rennes on Thursday. For that competition, the rules are essentially you play if you have 13 players and a goalkeeper (or something like that), so at this point we could field a team. If we want to stay in the ECL, that’s virtually a must-win.
For the league, our next game is against Brighton. I think they have nine players out, so I don’t know if the league would postpone this or how that would go.

Sounds like we should forfeit the Rennes game just to be safe. Take the 3-0 loss

With Var is it deemed matter closed or because no card was issued and it wasn't reviewed can they still do it? That's an amazing miss.

I guess the rule for that game is if we have 13 players including a keeper, we have to play. Apparently UEFA expects the game to go forward as scheduled at this point.
Today, Spurs players are taking PCR tests and the club hasn't said anything. Rumour is there are now 7 players expected to be positive and another 3 with symptoms...but just like transfer rumours or things like that, who knows?
Just when we start to come around and get some results, we have this to deal with.

Yeah, but the issue is we haven’t got time to wedge a game in later this month. There just aren’t many open dates, so it seems like they’ll just play it and field whatever they can. It could be that Brighton gets postponed and this one goes ahead.

Well Conte says 8 players and 5 staffers have tested positive now. As he put it, everyday they have more positives, so you have to think that they'll be requesting a postponement of the Brighton match.

I know that you're all waiting with baited breath, so the game for Spurs tomorrow against Rennes is now off. They've also closed their practice facility at this point and made no mention of when it reopens in their release. I would imagine an announcement on Sunday is soon to follow.
They didn't say that they were forfeiting tomorrow, but an announcement would be forthcoming on the fixture.

Hilariously, Rennes issued a statement saying that because UEFA didn’t cancel this, and it was unilaterally cancelled by Spurs, that they’re playing anyway! I’m sure it’s just them trying to get the forfeit, but it’s still hilarious to me. According to one source, there are 20 Covid cases at Tottenham and pretty clearly there isn’t going to be a game. Part of me just thinks it would be funny to play it with the kids, and win.

Yeesh. 20 people? with potential side effects lasting weeks - months after, that is not helpful for keeping a spot in Europe at this point.
Would be nice to know who, out of curiosity

Yeah, that sounds pretty crazy. Could be a mix of staff, first team players and junior players as well. The club apparently won't release names, so it really is all speculation.

Nothing hilarious about their statement at all. They've every right to be pissed at The Spurs behaviour.
They (Spurs) confirmed via email yesterday afternoon that they were going to play the game.
On the basis of that email Rennes flew to London.
Shortly after arriving in London at 1945 The Spurs announced via video conference that they didn't intend to play the game. When asked by SR they declined to disclose the number of players affected. It is believed they have had 15 players available .
INITIALLY the game was not confirmed to be cancelled by UEFA but The Spurs stating they couldn't play it with no official documents submitted. Amateur hour so in the
face of this SR announced they still intended to play.
Best thing SR can do is send their U16s and hope The Spurs eke out a win keeping them in the competition and that extra double play off round in January.

Well this is going to be interesting now. Vitesse won 3-1 against Mura, which means a win for Spurs puts us through, because we are currently tied on goal differential. Vitesse was upset prior to the game because the last matches are supposed to be played at the same time, and that was no longer the case.
I’m not sure when it will be rescheduled for at this point. Spurs haven’t got a lot of dates, and Rennes has a winter break beginning on the 22nd, so who knows what the plan is on that front.

It has to be done by 31st and spurs right now have games on the 16th, 19th, 22nd, 26th, 28th
Some thought the 16th vs Leicester may get cancelled anyway because it's the 10th day from the original positives, and the rules are you need to quarantine for 10 days, and there have been more positives since then.
The 22nd is a league cup quarter final, the semi finals are 14 days later, so not really anytime to reschedule
So I dont see how the game fits anywhere before the 22nd, after which Rennes are off for 2 weeks and I dont see anyway the club agrees to let them play even if UEFA set a date

Maybe they play mid week next week, and it's the spurs u18s or something, not the first team
