Sean McGuire is out with a groin injury after struggling in his CFL debut last week. Zach Collaros is back in his familiar spot and listed as the starter for Saturday evening’s contest, though it remains unclear the extent to which he will see the field.

McGuire completed just 11-of-27 passes for 149 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions in Winnipeg’s loss to Montreal last week.

Collaros was named the Blue Bombers’ Most Outstanding Player with 3,112 yards this season, throwing 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has battled injuries in the past, but if he were to sit out this game it would be almost a month between starts with Winnipeg hosting the West Final on Dec. 5.

As for Dru Brown, he has yet to throw a pass in the CFL, joining the Bombers during the 2020 off-season.

This has to be one of the worst years ever for QB play in the CFL. Not a single elite QB performance this season. Collaros is closest but he's not really had to do a lot in most games as the defense has handed them field position and kept opponents off the scoreboard.

And not just the QB's. The kickers have been horrible all year. how many missed filed goals and extra points have there been this year?

What’s interesting is that precovid, it sure seemed like the cfl was in the midst of a league wide QB resurgence. Every team in the West was stable with several stars and MOP candidates, while the East was a little weaker but had a great selection of young up and comers.

Now it sure seems like there isn’t a single star QB in the west as they’ve all had down years (or turned out to be a degenerate anti vaxxer and been traded). While the east still has potential but no one was able to establish themselves as a star in the making.

It’s not altogether surprising given the long break and the poor play in the cfl this year across the board but it sure came at the absolute wrong time.

The cfl has seen hard times before with peaks and valleys and it seems covid sure accelerated this decline.

On a positive note and while realizing that it was a tired and terrible Elks team, Canadian QB Nathan Rourke looked pretty good for the Lions last night.

Earlier in the game, Duane Forde put on a Western sweatshirt and was needling Rod Smith who played football at Queen's.
