I don't know usually when someone says sticks up for someone or a party it usually means they're under attack.
I personally don't care for Don Cherry and him playing the same video every year of him visiting the graves of dead soldiers really didn't mean anything to me especially since he turned out to be an old racist and that isn't what I stand for as a Canadian.
He can do whatever he wants to support soldiers but soldiers didn't die for his beliefs. They'd probably be rolling in their graves listening to him speak.
Pretty dumb take. Don was one of the first victims of cancel culture. Anything anyone says can be twisted to give a narrative that was never intended and that can not be denied. Don is a good human being that comes from time where people were a bit more proud and stood up for what they believe, the world could use more of that.

Cancel culture = consequences for things you say and do.
Plus, first victims? Sinead O’Connor, the Chicks, hell, Dave Hodge, say hi.
Don’s platform that as you put it “didn’t condone sexual abuse”… oh what a triumph in courage… he ALSO sure didn’t address the root causes of it either like cronyism, xenophobia, and misogyny.
Do you have any links to studies showing those are the sources of sex abuse? Sex abuse is endemic to human societies. It certainly isn’t confined to countries where xenophobia is evident - rape happens just as often in ethnically homogenous parts of the world.
Your assertions come across like ideological boilerplate, blaming your political enemies for crimes that are as old a humanity itself.

Nope unfortunately that is not what cancel culture actually means…..
So it’s not cancel culture when O’Connor gets her career destroyed for speaking against the church or the Chicks get blackballed when they criticize GWB - just when Cherry spouts actual racism and loses a job he wasn’t any good at any more anyway.

Cancel Culture might be what we’re calling it right now.
We have always cancelled people, for different things at different times.
Once upon a time, for being communists. That was McCarthyism. Communism is bad, McCarthyism is also bad - a real good example of becoming what you seek most to destroy. Fortunately, we pulled back.
We used to cancel people for being gay. Now we cancel the lady who wrote Harry Potter, a series whose foundational moral principle is “purity of blood and fascism are bull#### concepts”, for suggesting ladies and trans ladies are not the same thing.
I would suggest both of these extremes are absurd and represent outcomes we don’t want - if gay people are your enemy, or if JK Rowling is your enemy, you might be the one who needs to be stopped.
Gilbert Gottfried used to be the voice of a duck in insurance commercials, but then he reminded everyone of that tragedy.
John Cleese and Jerry Seinfeld are now too extreme for college campuses, which should alarm everyone.
We have to get back to tolerating people who say things we disagree with, and being intolerant of people who DO bad acts.
Because we’ll never agree with most people we encounter. But we do have to live with them, and acknowledging that there is a difference between what people say, and what they do, is a good way for us to accomplish this in relative peace.
That’s why it’s a foundational principle of our society; it’s actually one of things that makes our way better than all the others.
If we can’t do that, it’s going to lead to far worse than an old man losing his 5 minutes during the 1st intermission.

How was JK Rowling "cancelled"? She apparently just published a best-selling children's book:
Quote:
On 13 April 2021, it was announced that Rowling would be publishing a new children's novel, entitled The Christmas Pig, due to be released in October 2021. The story is unconnected to any of Rowling's previous works.[188] Upon release, the book received generally positive critical reviews and emerged a bestseller with high pre sales on Amazon.[189][190][191][192][193]
I'm also not aware of any instance where either John Cleese or Jerry Seinfeld were "cancelled" from performing on university campuses.
Apparently, John Cleese decided himself to cancel one appearance as a show of solidarity over one university's decision to "blacklist" a particular speaker (and apparently the university quickly reversed that decision to blacklist).
And, as far as I can tell, Jerry Seinfeld has made a personal decision not to perform at universities because he things the audiences are too "PC". That's his prerogative, but if that is what we are characterizing as "cancel culture", then... *yawn*.

Don should have been a victim of cancel culture a long time ago.
The fact it took so long probably has to do with his privilege.
Good humans do and say good things. Him playing a video of him at a grave site of dead soldiers and talking about the armed forces doesn't make him a good human being. That's a good trait but the bar is a lot higher than that unfortunately for Cherry.
Just because it didn’t work doesn’t mean it wasn’t tried.
How was it tried? And by whom?

Well Rowling has taken some pretty stupid stances lately. FWIW
Doesn't seem stupid to me at all. I agree with everything she says here.
Quote:
That initial tweet garnered a lot of backlash, but Rowling did not relent and wrote about her views in more detail. “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth,” she tweeted. “The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women—i.e., to male violence—‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences—is a nonsense.”
She continued, “I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”
We can’t DO things based on those stupid stances to inflict harm on others.
OK, and people who disagree with JK Rowling are allowed to say "I disagree with this. Its a stupid stance." And it seems to me that they are also allowed to say "Hey guys, I think everyone who also thinks this is a stupid stance should stop buying Harry Potter books! That will show her!" And maybe that is also a stupid stance. So what?

Well, that isn't actually true.

That was her backtracking. She’s been active trying to deny trans rights. When she talks about fighting by their side if their rights were threatened she meant her own definition of their rights (which is significantly different than their own view). Simply put she doesn’t accept a trans woman as a woman.

Well, it seems to misunderstand the difference between sex and gender. It also suggests that trans people generally want to "erase the concept of sex", which (it seems to me) couldn't be further from the truth (if anything, I feel like trans people generally place great importance on the concept of sex, and go to great lengths in order to attempt to have their sex align more closely with their gender).

Nope in this society you aren't allowed to have opinions or opinions about others opinions or exercise any freedom of speech. That is where we are as a society.
Also, as over the last year or two the narrative of all white people are racists is being pushed in society. So if you are caucasian and born, before you speak a word you are a racist.
Yes, society is progressing nicely..... my lord. Just treat everyone with respect and trust that everyone is entitled to their viewpoint and opinion regardless if you are offended or not.
