2010 - Canada selects five natural wingers. (Iginla, Heatley, Morrow, Perry, Nash)
2014 - Canada selects six natural wingers. (Perry, St Louis, Nash, Sharp, Benn, Kunitz)
2016 - Canada selects two natural wingers. (Marchand, Perry)
Andrew Mangiapane isn’t making this team. He shouldn’t be anywhere near it. It doesn’t mean he’s not a good player.
He’s inarguably not one of the 14 best forwards in the country, and he’s not an injury or two away from being there either.
Kunitz made the team because he was Sid’s linemate and Babcock had trouble in 2010 finding the right guys to play with him. That’s all.
He might make Finland. He’s not making Canada.

Nobody is expecting Mangiapane to make it. If this was gambling his odds would be set at 500-1.
He isn't making it but it's still an honor to be on the long list.

I agree, I think it would be hard for him to make Canadas second team. I don't think I would put him in Canadas top 50 just yet. It was his hot start and what he did for Canada at the worlds in the summer.

Off the top of my head but I think Regehr in 06? Then Fluery in 98

Gio was shafted in, 2014, the “World Cup”, and by players not going to Korea. Should have been on 3 Team Canada’s.

The most successful Canadian teams are when the best offensive forwards are chosen with some of them forced to take on a shutdown role. Taking players like Claude Lemieux, Rob Zamuner, Shayne Corson, and Kris Draper doesn't work out.
Mangiapane has a shot if he continues among the league's top goal scorers just like Iggy did in 2002.
