I am the first to eat crow, I didn’t like the Eric Gudbranson signing. But I have to say he has been excellent. I was expecting endless ridiculous giveaways but he has proven to be very responsible defensively, has much better speed/mobility than I thought, and makes a great outlet pass. I am very impressed.

Hopefully the fact he was not available in a trade earlier this week means the Flames have indications that he wants to stay. Locking up him and Gaudreau would be nice.

It's been an undeniably good first ten games. I'm still wary he will falter as the season goes on but he gets full marks so far, he's been solid.

Teams like Vancouver and Ottawa, who lacked depth, were expecting him to do too much. He's not a complete top 3 defender, but if you keep him in a limited role he's always looked good.
