Default When trading a player?

OK, I was wondering how other GM's felt about this. Ive watched a few shows lately. The one's where they follow a GM around during the draft or at the trade deadline etc. Ive seen when the GM gets a trade offer they get off the phone call up another team that was interested in the same player and tell them the offer they just got.

"You want Gretzky still? Nashville just offered me Kurri, Messier and a 1st. Can you beat it?"

They also all seem to know what team is going to be drafting what player. One gm tells another gm and within the hour almost every team knows who's being picked and when. Then the dealing begins as teams try to move up. But in the CPHL no one really wants to tell anyone what there offer is so they can try and beat it. Are we all full of crap and don't want to let on? Or are we afraid of offending someone? Sure you can say I'm getting a guy back rated 75 overall. But that usually don't help. I for one really don't care if I make a offer and that gm uses it to try and get a better deal. But how does the rest of the league feel?

I'm with you. It doesn't bother me either. However I know some gm's don't like it.

Well when it comes to the draft, I have not had any trouble finding out who is drafting who and in what position...last year was truciky with Cheese having so many 1sts but in other years where the picks are more spread out, I was able to find out exactly what order.

Some GM's here have told me they have a deal in the works and when I show some interest and ask who is involved, they don't tell me. Why mention it and then not tell...If someone asks me I will usually tell them who I am being offered or if asked by the other GM not to say anything, I will just give the OV numbers.

I'm for more openness as well, but sometimes there's no point mentioning the offer you have received just because, lets say from a gut feel, you think the other GM isn't going to make a better offer.

I won't mention the team nor players involved myself and if I have another GM that tells me they have a offer else where then I drop my offer off the table right there. I have zero interest in talks like that myself, so therfore I don't do that to others.

Same with if a GM comes to me with asking for advise on a deal I won't then try and steal that player away with my own offer.

Yeah I agree with alot of that.

For me I don't mind if gm's tell other gm's what I offered them, but I don't tell other gm's what other gm's offered me (player or team wise, I only do it by ov).

You just want me out so you can be the best East Indian GM in the league...........but then again with that deal you made regarding Tanguay...........you'd still only be in the silver medal spot.

PS it wasn't me.

And yeah I never go after someone once someone asks for advice. That's a little over the top IMO. But like Dave, sometimes I wish I did.

Your name is also a bit of a giveaway.

In regards to this topic, I do not tell anyone any information on a trade. At most I will give OV numbers. I believe in being discreet with my trades. I used to be pretty open, especially in my rookie season as GM, but have learnt my lesson as I have had players stolen before.

Sending out 32 offers usually gives you away...

Well I have gotten what I wanted in the past, but everyone has their own approach. By the way you can still get Girard if you act quick.

Yeah that's pretty dirty. If the GM did that to me they probably wouldn't be in the CPHL for much longer.
