This was about 5 years ago so obviously that makes a difference.

This is going to be a matter of opinion obviously. I dont see it.
The Honda Centre is more efficient because its newer, but it is also pretty much the most boring building in existence.

I agree on the building. Probably the ugliest "new" building in the NHL.

I wouldnt say 'ugliest.' Its just boring.
Its like if you asked me, a Tax Accountant, to design a hockey arena.
I'd draw a rectangle as the total footprint of the lot, then another rectangle which is the building itself, an oval inside for the rink itself and seating and then fill in the rest with the most cost-effective concession options available.
I think any idiot could do that. More creative rinks require more creative people. The Honda Centre is not that.

I would say it's likely due to the in game entertainment. (Music, MC/host(?) in between plays, etc.) In places like LA and Vegas, where the crowd is more casual compared to Canadian markets, the energy in the building does seem to be higher because the entertainment staff tries to make the game more of an event, and knows how to build the atmosphere to get the crowd more energetic. It's something American teams emphasis more to get fans that come to games, to keep coming back.
Since sold out rinks in Canadian markets are automatic - as long as barriers aren't in place to make it inconvenient or not enticing enough for people to come to games - the teams may not make it as much of a priority to bring energy to the venue.

$10 tickets make for louder regular season crowds... doesn't take rocket science to figure out why. That covers some of the southern us teams
Different clientele
At least 1/3 of Vegas crowds are people on vacation too...not people who are driving home and going to work the next day

There's plenty of 20-30 year olds who go to National every weekend going to Flames game on a regular basis also I'd say. And this is a city that featured the Calgary Stampede. I don't think it's primarily due to price bringing in a younger crowd solely is why other places have more lively crowds consistently.

They’re not tired. They only had to play the Oilers.

You don’t want to hear Cassie tell you how amazing McDavid’s play was last night?

No. I don't want her to tell me anything ever again. Singh can join her.

The pond and Staples center 10 minutes away? Not even close. And the clientele isn't close either. Ducks fans are phony.. barely show up.

I went to a game in Vegas. I couldn’t really tell how loud the crowd was because they had the sound system blasting at 120 dB at every opportunity. Maybe the sound system is too subdued at the Saddledome? In Vegas we had to scream at the people sitting right next to us to be heard over the music. That probably amps up the crowd noise quite a bit.

Going to my first game this year and wondering when I should leave. How much longer are the lines taking with the vaccination verification?

I went on Thursday and the lines were very quick. Separate lines for vaccination and ticket which helps a lot. I was there about 1.5 hours before game time too but it never seemed to get too backed up at the tickets line from what I saw..

The only fair comparison for the Saddledome crowd is other Canadian cities.
WPG is loud - probably because they have nothing else to do, and games are the highlight of the social calendar. Similar argument for EDM.
But VAN and TOR are no louder than CGY - probably quieter. Same for OTT. And MTL is hit and miss.
As someone said though - come playoffs, the Dome rocks.

Gaudreau was on the Firestarter podcast just before the season and mentioned that Flames fans (and Canadian crowds in general) know their hockey and as a result cheer when it's deserved, whereas places like Vegas cheer over small things because they don't know what's happening yet.
He certainly sounded amused by it more than anything.

Yeah I heard that, I know 2 people that saw a game there and both said it's not really a good experience for pure "hockey fans" I wonder if Seattle is the same way.
