100%. I wasn't too concerned if it didn't happen because its almost expected not too. Now they have to. Can't let another star on that team if you can help it.

Vegas is already a top 6 or 7 team when healthy.

Can't let it happen. Otherwise, you're really hard pressed to have any hope of coming out of your division in the post-season.

If the Flames get Eichel they keep Gaudreau. This is even more important for the Flames than just Eichel and Vegas.

My desire to win this battle is equal parts: getting Jack Eichel and not being the damn runner up again.

I think so too.

It will also mean that we lean more on ELCs going forward, which I think a lot of fans would prefer to see over signings like Zadorov, since a lot of dough will be locked up in the core after Eichel and contract extensions.

It will be a very good core, though.

I'm surprised the Flames are still in the conversation given how well they've started this year. I also have a hard time seeing how they get this done without Tkachuk going the other way - the only active roster player they'll be motivated to move and who clears sufficient cap space.

I'm currently working on an Eichel trade negotiations beard.

Pretty sure the greys are multiplying at this point.

This is all building to a third team swooping in at the last minute.

?

Monahan and Dube/Valimaki make more than Tkachuk. There’s probably a few different ways this goes down without Tkachuk being involved.

FR, came to my mind also.

Shades of Iggy to "Pittsburgh?!?!?" -Steinberg

You can't tell me Anaheim and San Jose are just sitting there scratching their heads while their division rivals close in on this guy.

The math works, but if I'm Buffalo I don't see Monahan as having positive value at this stage, and if I'm Calgary I'm not too sure I like the idea of 19 mil tied up in 2 players next year, with one destined to go UFA the year after.

For me, Tkachuk moving makes sense for both teams and addresses the lion's share of the salary swap needed. Then you're down to prospects and picks, plus maybe an ok defenceman with upside - all things the Flames can absorb while still icing a competitive team next year.

I'm pretty ambivalent about the trade happening at all, but just have a hard time seeing it based around someone other than Tkachuk on the Flames side of the ledger.

Who knows though - these blockbusters usually surprise.

At the risk of beating a dead horse ... our network has reported the asking price and it's steep but do-able. Might sting a little. But does this really get done? I hope so, just so I can stop writing about it.

Otherwise, maybe pass and look to a future where you have those three players filtering into the team.
So needing to trade Zary and Pelletier for Eichel is your point of no return? If the alternative is keeping our first round pick, I don't give it a second thought. Not a hill I'm dying on.

Losing Coronato hurts a little more, but he is also worth more in the package.

I was actually thinking Pittsburgh would be a good third team that might be interested in Monahan, with the injuries to Malkin and the proneness of injuries to Crosby. He would be a good filler for that team. I am not sure how their cap would be affected though if Malkin and Crosby are both activated at some point.

Article says six-week recovery time on Eichel's preferred procedure. Is that true?

Thought it was 3 months.

They said 6 weeks to resume skating, 3 months to play again.

I might have to stay away from CP for a while if Eichel ends up in Vegas. The meltdown around this place will be unbearable.
