I think every Bay location has a watch repair centre. I've had straps changed and batteries replaced at both the Chinook and South Centre locations.

Otherwise, I'd try a few of the online watch buyers like Watchbox or Crown and Caliber and get competing offers.

From there you could see if a local guy will match or beat the offers from the online shops, though I'm not sure they could.

Porsche Design is just an industrial design house and they have had some historical collaborations with real watch companies like IWC in the 70s. There is less interest and demand in watches from them as they are not really considered a watch maker with in house movements or horological pedigree. It's like a fancy architect placing his name on something. Heck, I even had a Porsche Design designed LCD monitor from the early 2000s when LCD monitors were considered futuristic.

These watches are fine if you like the look but not good for holding or rising in value whereas a Rolex will go up 5-10% a year and will always be easy to sell.

Not sure if there's good re sale places in Calgary(if you're in Calgary) but there are places like Time & Gold in Vancouver that are good for resale if you're worried about going direct to consumer.
They may be worth contacting, as even with shipping out to them I'm sure the process will feel safe.
They're a reputation retail watch store that has been around for a long time.

You're not wrong about some watches needing special care.
My wife just had a couple Cartier batteries replaced on old watches for her aunt and we took them in to a pro. Was about $50 each.

Check out the CanWatchCo forums if you're looking to move some pieces, it's a pretty good group of Canadian watch enthusiasts and you may have good success there.

That's a nice looking Daytona! I don't know much about older Rolex models, the vintage Rolex market is a whole 'nother rabbit hole you can go down.

You can go on TRF (The Rolex Forums) and look around and do some research there to help get a feel for what it would be worth. Looks like a Daytona 16528? What about just keeping it? If it was something your dad really liked it might be a nice keepsake.

Yep, the guy at southcentre bay is really great. Literally 3 minutes and $10 from time of entering the Bay for a strap repair after it exploded and the spring and pin disappeared.

How much do you know about watches? If it's limited, if I were you, I'd perhaps bring this Daytona along and keep it in my pocket or bag when chatting with a retailer to understand how to appreciate a brand new Rolex. After learning the basics on a different Rolex, I'd whip out the Daytona and apply the same concepts on it and also see what the retailer thinks about the watch. I'd suggest doing this before attempting to move them. I'd suggest doing this to try and get insight as to what caught your dad's attention to make him want to try and acquire each piece.


I wouldn't move any of them until I had a better understanding about what each piece is about. Otherwise I feel like I'd easily regret it one day if I suddenly became more interested in luxury watches. Unique to you, each piece has a story and is IMO a little piece of your dad's personality. I personally wouldn't be eager to let go of something like that soon after his passing and an attribute like that is not something you can even pay for. Your dad is a part of the history of that watch. That history is possibly priceless to you, but worthless to someone else. It would hurt my soul to relinquish a treasure of someone important to me, to someone who treats it like "whatever". But that's just me.


I've had opportunisties to acquire a Daytona before. I know they're prized in the luxury watch market, but I've never really felt a connection to them. There are also huge differences between pictures, looking at a watch in person and wearing a watch. The watch he treasured the most might not be the watch that catches your eye. The pic you posted is something you said your dad had a lot of pride in though. He appreciated it and it gave him joy. Don't let go of that opportunity to get a chance to try and get a unique glimpse into your dad's life until you are truly certain you are ready to do so. There is a reason why some collectors only sell to friends/acquaintances. They want to know the watch is well taken care of and is good vibes to get the occasional glimpse of them later on.
