Coronato has 6 points in 3 games.

Is that good?

not as good as 4 points in one game or 6 points in two games.

Sell high on him, he's trending down

If the trend continues, he will score –2 points in his next game, and the game after that he'll be back down to zero on the season. Disturbing!

He's the third leading scorer on his team, so it is good!

Freshmen never put up numbers like that in the NCAA. It’s tough for an 18 year old in a league of older, more developed players. He obviously won’t sustain this pace, and his numbers are bound to return more to earth, but still impressive.

Yes, a point per game is rare for a Freshman.

Toews put up 39 in 42. And Johnny put up 44 in 44. Those are both exceptional seasons.

Coronato is not going to put up more than a PPG, unless his team is just rolling everyone.

Unless he's really, really, really good.

I think the ECAC (the part of the NCAA where Coronato plays) and Hockey East (Boston College, Boston University) are generally lower scoring than the Big-10 (where Kyle Connor put up almost 2 points per game in his rookie season on a team with Compher and Werenski).

Paul Kariya - 100 (2.5 PPG), George McPhee -88 (2.1), and Troy Murray- 78 ( 2.1) , are the three highest Freshman scorers (PPG) in NCAA history.

Interesting that he's playing with a teammate from Chicago again and both are again finding crazy success... So which of them is the better? Sean Farrell is a Montreal 4th rounder from the 2020 draft. Sean outscored Matt last year in Chicago as well.

Hard to compare, since, as you pointed out, Farrell is a year older and was drafted in 2020. At age 20, Sean should be much more physically developed than Matt at this point, and the difference would have been even more noticeable last season.

Jack Eichel put up 71 points in 40 games in his freshman year. That should be the target, then do a one for one at the end of the season.
