A third of the Flames' roster has turned over from last season, and they have a real coach for a change. Vegas has also had turnover, and is missing some key pieces from last season; some due to long-term injury, some permanently.
By the way, missing the playoffs by four points (to a team that actually got fewer wins) does not make you a bottom feeder. For that, look way, way further down.

Would you put money on the Flames finishing above Vegas the next two years? I am supposedly the biggest Flames homer on CP and I wouldn't
I don't think the Sabres would either, which is good for us in this case
If its a first or two our picks are more valuable to Buffalo IMO

Until it’s done, I’m hoping Treliving steals this deal from Vegas the way they did with Stone.

Which is kind of the whole point here. I firmly believe that if any team gives up five or six useful pieces for Eichel, they will lose that trade, too.

its debatable if Forsberg was better than healthy Lindros.
Lindros was like if Lucic was scoring at McDavid's pace...terrified the opposition in more ways than one

True… but you don't win by terrifying the opposition. The year that Lindros got his 115 points (the only time he ever broke 100), Forsberg got 116 points and a Stanley Cup ring. Forsberg was also a better defensive player; there's a reason he got Selke votes seven years running, with four top-10 finishes. Between the two of them, I take Forsberg over Lindros.

Me? I wouldn't bet you five bucks that I am alive. Not the best person to ask.

Watched both of their whole careers. Lindros was incredible. Forsberg was probably better, but it was very close. And ultimately yeah, Lindros teams always had the feel of an under achiever.

I agree that it's close.

For a while there was a real debate about best player in the league between Jagr and Forsberg, FWIW.
Lindros would have made it into the conversation but for injuries though. Of course right now injuries are the concern. And while people are talking about “healthy Eichel” and “Eichel never coming back” there’s a big gulf between those two. There’s a decent chance the surgery is “successful” but he just doesn’t come back with 100% mobility, or the lengthy time off just affects him badly.
Of course, it was Forsberg, Ricci, Duschene, Hextall, Huffman, Simon, 1993 and 1994 firsts and $15M. For one dude.

And one of those firsts was used to pick Jocelyn Thibault, who was the principal piece in the trade that brought Patrick Roy to Colorado.
The Lindros trade was so spectacularly lopsided, it even has its own Wikipedia page. According to that article, by the end of the 2000-01 season, here's what each team had to show for the deal:
COLORADO:
Two Stanley Cups
Rob Blake
Ray Bourque
Chris Dingman
Peter Forsberg
Shjon Podein
Steven Reinprecht
Patrick Roy
Alex Tanguay
PHILADELPHIA:
One appearance in the SCF
Eric Lindros on IR (missed entire 2000-01 season)
Moral of the story: There is always a price too high to pay for any one player. Eichel is no exception.

Hell.. I don't believe what anybody says any more.
No one is sitting in either office and tweeting developments as they unfold so nobody probably actually knows any of this for sure.
Just end this. I'm tired of the in and out rumors that never end.

See: LA and Chicago 5-7 years ago vs today.
The nice thing for both of them is they will bottom out and pickup some great talent before improving again.

Vegas landing Eichel would just be so predictable. Most spoiled franchise and fan base in the league, hands down. Here's hoping this whole thing backfires on them in spectacular fashion.

On the other hand, see Pittsburgh in the Crosby era, and Detroit for years and years and years. You can stay in contention a long time with good management, but the Golden Knights don't seem interested in playing the long game.
