5 pts in 4 games in the AHL. I would bring up Pelletier and give him a shot on the Mangi-Dube wing. Give him 10 ish games and if he doesn't fit see if the Rangers are happy with the swap. I originally pitched it but Pelletier had a good start offensively in the AHL and is making me eat my "difficult offensive transition to pro" comments from earlier.

More likely.
1) It boosts the trade value of guys like Dube or Monahan, who are quietly rounding into form. A lot easier for guys to score while leading late in games and the opponent makes a bad pinch than to try to make comebacks while the opponent is being highly conservative.
2) It gives us a big cushion to still make the playoffs without Eichel, where he can be full Kucherov with his 10M cap hit not having counted all year. The only concern here is getting him ~fifteen regular season games to build stamina and chemistry, and learn the system.
3) It lets the potential "last hurrah" for the Gaudreau/Tkachuk era hit with aplomb. Even when the 2018-19 Blue Jackets went all-in on UFas like Duchene, Panarin, Bobrovsky, and Dzingeland when there was an inevitable rebuild coming, it was still the right move because it gave their fans memories they'll mever forget.

You can't do that. You can ‘Kucherov’ him by keeping him out until the playoffs start and evading his cap hit. (Assuming the league turns a blind eye to the fact that he's ready to play earlier.) Or you can activate him for regular-season games and have to clear his full cap hit. Not both.
Remember, cap space does not accrue when you are using LTIR.

I still think the Flames could use more finishing talent.
What do we think of a swap involving Zadorov + a pick to ARI for Kessel @ 50% + a pick?
Maybe Zads at $3.75 + a 2nd for Kessel at $3.4 + a 4th? Kessel had 20 goals and 43 points in 56 games last year.

I’d prefer to ensure we get Kravstov. It would be nice to have some scoring depth, but I think we’re good at the top of the lineup and don’t need Kessel to be involved. He’s the opposite of a Sutter player.

Kessel or Tarasenko would be pale consolation prizes, but they'd help ensure our finishing doesn't fall off too much when guys cool off.

Eh I'm not sure — remember when Marian Gaborik wasn't a Sutter player?

Marian Gaborik trains for conditioning and plays with pace.

Considering Sutter has preached multiple times about conditioning and playing with pace, I think teaming up would be both Kessel's and Sutter's worst nightmare lmao

Phil Kessel is usually in amazing shape. His teammates always say he is a beast in the gym. Any source to your claim

No source. Could be wrong.
Just going off previous critique and his overall physique.
But his laziness and difficulty to play with on the ice at times, as well as his whiny nature and interest in racking up his stats only has been documented and not sure that's someone Sutter would like in his system.

He’s in great shape for what he does. He can rip it.
But he dogs it, often. Every time I’ve seen him live it’s stood out to me, laziest good player I’ve ever seen. He can also fly. So I’m inferring that it’s conditioning.

From what I’ve read about Kessel he’s freakishly strong and fast, even by the standards of professional athletes. That’s what amazes his teammates. But he does not train hard. He was just born with incredible physical gifts. And of course he dogs it on the ice.

If Eichel ends up in Vegas I would like to see the Flames go over the top with a Rakell and H. Lindholm trade.
Two more swedes in the lineup. RHS RW and a top pairing LHD.
1st 2022 + Valimaki +
Johnny - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangi - Dube - Rakell
Monahan - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Lewis - Richardson
Ritchie
Lindholm - Andersson
Hannifin - Tanev
Kylington - Gudbranson
Markstom
I honestly see that lineup contending. It would be difficult for teams to match that depth.

Wait.. who goes out to make that work?
I'd love to just add two great players to my roster too, but its never that simple.

I guess Zadorov would have to be included. Lidholm and Rakelll's deals would have to include retention. Also, those contracts would be prorated at the deadline.
5.2 for Lindholm and 3.8 for Rakell at 50% and prorated should work.

Monahan
Valimaki
2022 1st
Rackell
Lindholm
$9 mil in cap space coming to Calgary, $8 mil going back the other way.
Rackell and Lindholm are both pending UFAs, so it would definitely be a Win Now trade. But I don’t hate the idea. Problem is Anaheim would be able to get at least a 1st for Rackell and a 1st + for Lindholm individually at the deadline, so the Flames offer would need to beat that on futures. I don’t know that the above deal does that. Monahan would basically be a cap dump in this scenario.
