At that point Flames will probably have to explore trades. It will be money in money out and probably for other players who are underperforming their cap hits. For example Zadorov for two depth pieces that would make roughly the same cap hit.
If the problem can be delayed until the deadline maybe you can recoup a pick for him.

Maybe to Minny for Rask
It would at least make all the Swedes happy

Zadorov is DEPTH we will need down the stretch.
We have had issues in the past and regardless of the expense he's decent depth .
If he has an attitude issue?
Then....he be gone but I don't think that's the case (although he should have never given attitude to Eric Francis " DO you even watch hockey"?....I played top 4 all year in Chicago)
That was ultimately the dumbest thing out of his mouth and if this is why he is sitting then Sutter and Huska are doing the right thing in healthy scratching him until he concludes that he's NOT the second coming of ____?
I like Stone better however and Stone has worked his ass off to be in the position he's in and he earned that whereas Zadorov as a relatively new fish hasn't really proven much.
Zadorov WILL to be quite honest likely get passed on the depth chart by Mackey I predict by the end of the year..
This isn't the end of the world .

He’s practicing with the team, learning Sutter hockey. He’ll be needed at some point and he’ll be better.

Zadorov is a good depth piece. Maybe he gets paid to much to be depth, but he is a plug and play type and will bring some size into the lineup when injuries do happen.
Only gripe I have is the cap hit.

Nice to carry a decent extra D man in case of injury.

In a perfect world trade to a team with D injury issues for a 15 goal winger being overpayed on a 1 year deal.

I am not really worried about him right now. Maybe he was trying to do too much? We all knew he was bounced-around for a reason after all, with Calgary being his 4th team.
If Calgary's coach was still Gulutzan, Peters or Ward, I would have agreed that the Flames should go the waivers route in the hopes he gets picked up. However, under Sutter? No way. I bet he turns around. I bet that in a month or two, that there is a legitimate chance that many people will say: "Thank goodness we have him". I have faith in Sutter being the 'defensive defencemen whisperer'. Gudbranson has been very good so far (though as I pointed out, fans from the American teams he was on stated exactly that). Sutter has a long track list of bringing guys in and getting them to be good. As long as Zadorov is willing to put the work in and listen to Sutter, he will improve. He has a lot of tools - size, agility, spectacular hits, and fairly good underlying shot suppression numbers. However...
I just hope he becomes better at passing the puck. Easily the worst puck-mover that I have ever seen on the Flames that I can recall. Yes, that includes names that I won't say as it still haunts a few of us too much (Erickson and Hale - Happy Halloween!). Those two were something terrible, but I do recall that they were not that bad at actually moving the puck (just about everything else though!). I am sure he can improve there a bit until he is at least passable.

This would be shortsighted and foolish.
To say nothing of whether or not the Flames could use him this year, they probably will at some point, every single year teams load up on defensemen at the deadline. Trade him for a third round pick, or more if the club decides to move on.

If they are competing for the playoffs, they'll keep Zadorov for depth - even if he isn't playing great. If they aren't, they'll probably flip him unless he is playing absolutely lights out (doesn't look likely).

Don't be silly. Giving attitude to Eric Francis is always the right thing to do!

Would love for us to dump the cap and get an asset back, but fine with keeping him for depth if thats not possible.
