I think Eichel will be a bust for the Knights.
But ho boy that's gonna be a bad team in 5 years.

Watch them be a bad team next year. This is totally giving me NYR vibes from when they tried to buy a Stanley Cup in the late 90s. A bunch of little cliques in the locker room, no cohesion, no gelling of teammates. Good city to play in but a bad rep for the team. Treats role players poorly and casts people off without remorse. Same thing happening to Vegas.

You think I like not getting star players? I just think we can't gut a team to get a guy that will play for four years. In that time we will not be able to support him and win. Robbing Peter to pay Paul makes no sense.
We want star top 3-5 players then we rebuild and draft them. It's just to bad that Tree was inexperienced early on and traded 2 many picks before the core was ready.

In the summer I was excited about the possibility but as it has gone along I have floated between malaise over the whole affair with a sprinkling of anger at Adams for putting business ahead of a young person's health (just my opinion). He's a great player but I don't see the point in gutting the whole team to acquire him. You are acquiring him to compete not become Buffalo west.
The assets the Flames have been able to offer were probably always on the table and I doubt that has changed with the start the team has had (not that I know what is being offered but I doubt that has changed much). I wonder if Adams was waiting to see if Calgary or Vegas would flinch if the team started slow and perhaps Vegas has flinched.

Eichel is a Joe Thornton level acquisition.
It's much more likely Eichel gives stability to a not-dumpster fire organization like Jumbo Joe did.
Our division is going to have McDavid and Eichel.
Meanwhile we spend a combined $11.625M on a 4th line C and 4th line LW.
...c'mon Tree. Do the thing where you actually make an in-season trade and improve the team. Don't let Vegas get this done.

I hope that if Eichel goes elsewhere, Treliving has a backup plan to improve the club. The fanbase has been riled up by this saga, and 'Brad Richardson is healthy now and will give us a nice bump in production' isn't going to cut it.

Thinking about what Thornton could have done with Iginla. Can't name a more iconic duo than the Flames and ignoring the most important position on the ice.

This is what happens though when your organization is asset poor. Flames management over the years have pissed them away trading for mediocre players or mistakes.
It says a lot when a franchise like Vegas has only been around for 4 years yet can present better assets on the table to outbid a team that's been around for 40+ years.
I actually tricked myself into thinking we could actually land Jack Eichel and really, that's a shame on me because as a long time Flames fan, I should know to generally expect disappointment.

You're basing that off of the handful of games they've played this year? Without a bunch if their best players?
Vegas finished tied for 1st overall last season and went to the conference finals again.
Them adding Eichel is a ####ing disaster for the Flames IMO.

Not really sure this is a fair comparison. He revamped rules for expansion present the expansion team with riches right out of the gates. They have access to very good young players to claim and can make deals in the process to accumulate draft capital. The whole process is significantly in favour of the expansion team now unlike years past

Eichel, Stone, Pietrangelo... boogie woogie!!!!!!
Bring it! The only thing I want the Flames to do is to pretend they are interested in Eichel to drive up the price for Vegas.

Even with sending Theodore's cap hit back I don't see how they make it work cap wise once the other guys com off LTIR. Unless they just plan on circumventing the cap knowing big fanboy Bettman will look the other way.

Depends on the cost.
If they have to give up Theodore, Krebs, and a 1st or something like that....well then I'm not sure it's a disaster for the Flames.
That Vegas team is getting older, have spent all their draft capital/assets, and has cap issues.
And the core is getting old.
Pacioretty - 32 - 2 years left
Pietrangelo - 31 - 6 years left
Martinez - 34 - 3 years left
Dadonov - 32 - 2 years left
Marchessault - 30 - 3 years left
Stone - 29 - 6 years left
Karlsson - 28 - 6 years left
Lehner - 30 - 4 years left
Tuch, Whitecloud, Krebs, Hague and Theodore are really their only key pieces under 26. If they move 2-3 of those guys to get Eichel then they really are in a mode where they have to win in the next two seasons.

Just because other GMs in the league were dumb enough to give up 2 good players to protect 1 good player, does not excuse the Flames' poor asset management. It basically comes down to good management vs bad management.
Vegas identified the right type of team, identity and players they wanted to go after right from the start and they haven't made a ton of mistakes in their process.
You can't exactly say that about the Flames who have flip flopped from coach to coach to coach and changed team identities along with a multitude of players in the process.
Even just one or two less mistakes would've helped this team dramatically. I mean, imagine if the Flames had one or both of Jordan Kyrou and Joel Farabee up the middle. This team would be set and we wouldn't even have to think about acquiring Jack Eichel.

Thing is aren’t the Flames supposed to be in the same spot? They are 100% in win now mode and while there is risk I do not see another path to adding a player this elite.
Vegas has won 7 playoff rounds in 4 years this move makes them so powerful when healthy.
I am sick of being a runner up on every big move. Treliving overvalues his assets and has been unable to make a legit trade in over 3 years. Nothing is finalized yet and maybe the Flames swoop in here but I doubt it. This team hasn’t been near good enough to just run it back every year. Took 3 years too long to get Sutter and wasted years of the core’s prime with trash coaches.
Yup I am ready for a new GM. Come on Brad I am craving some crow make the deal happen

Well, will need to see what the return is but I will be mighty disappointed when Eichel gets traded to Vegas especially if Krebs is the centerpiece

The Flames do not have a game breaker. Assuming the Knights get Eichel, realistically the Flames are going to have to take out a team with Eichel and a team with McDavid to advance anywhere meaningful in the playoffs. The Flames can't contain McDavid, not sure what they are going to do against Eichel on a Vegas team that already has our number. Feels bad.
