3 team trade has been discussed as the solution to that for a long time. Buffalo eats some salary there it makes Monahan a positive asset if he is coming in under $4M cap hit for the new team

That's a potential option. But I think its more likely he sticks around for a playoff run and tries to rejuvenate.

It’s possible. If Calgary offers two first round picks (2022 and 2023) I could see Buffalo making the trade without including those players. I know it’s all just magic beans then but in the last two big trades for high end players (Karlsson and Duchene), the most valuable asset ended up being the first round pick because they ended up being higher than expected. The deal I proposed leaves both of the picks exposed to being a high pick if Calgary does not doe well in the next two years.

I wonder if having Monahan on the 4th line, is to "encourage" him to waive his NTC. With A new contract needed, he isn't going to justify his asking price with those minutes and production from there. OR, head to Buffalo and be a top line center and pad the stats. Those are your options Mony... waving or not?

If the Flames could pull this off what a center group for the playoffs. I feel like dumping Monahan is a must though if they want to re-sign 2 of Johnny, Mangiapane, Tkachuk.

If that's all it took to get him, he'd be had by now. If they do end up getting him for that little, I hope there is a follow up trade or 2 to recoup some assets. If Monahan isn't involved in the deal, I think you still explore trading him
