I think it's probably the Flames that do that in a heartbeat and the Leafs that hang up the phone. 1.75 seasons of Tkachuk and a 3rd line center for the highest producing player in the trade that's under contract for another three seasons after this one.

Be great to be a fly on the wall in a catch up between Burke and Sutter....

Sorry, you must be confused. EE gets to make that comment because I actually respect him and his opinions. You keep trying though, you might get there yet.

Marner and Gaudreau on the same PP? Who's going to be netfront? Who's going to win board battles?
That is not a very well-thought out plan, and this is coming from the dummy that wanted us to draft Clayton Keller over Matthew Tkachuk.
Marner makes zero sense for Calgary's needs outside of being a talented player. He's not a center, he probably shouldn't play on a scoring line with Gaudreau if you want a strong forecheck, he shouldn't play on a tough minutes line with Backlund, so you're bringing him in to... what, play with Mangiapane and Dube?

At this point I think for TOR it's all about cap space, and that trade doesn't help.
They had roster issues last week and had to sign the UofT goalie for a game.
Yes, they need some grit/nastiness and blue-paint presence, but they need cap space more.
In a "what have you done for me lately" world, #19 has more points than #16 this season.
Stay away from any Toronto trade (have we learned nothing from the past?!!?)
Let'em sufffer.

"Massive" undervaluing? If you had to trade Monahan tomorrow to get under the cap, what kind of pick would you get back? Not much of one I'm afraid.
The onus is really on Manahan right now to show he can play to his contract.

Hasn't played since 2019. Was milling around the TOR front office last year. Not officially retired, but... definitely done.

I'd be happy to even get Monahan playing to the level Bennett was playing at under Sutter before the trade. Is he even capable of that though?

Yes, but that does not reflect the original claim. There is no question that Kylington is playing the best hockey of his life right now, and is benefitting greatly right now from getting the best opportunity he has ever received. But it is wrong to insinuate that he has not in the past had other opportunities—he has.

There is a bit of a difference between a short-leash third pair opportunity with Stone behind Gio-Brodie & Hanifin-Andersson, where your GM decides to trade for guys like Gustafsson to get you in the pressbox because the coach doesn't trust you even when you play well, and a top four opportunity with Chris Tanev where in many regards, your pair 5v5 could be argued to be the top defense pair on the team.
A huge difference, actually.

Burke and Sutter are both such strong willed individuals. I wonder if they could ever work together?

I appreciate the poster coming back and clarifying where the rumor started. Obviously it is a grain of salt type thing but at least it seems like it is not throwing darts at a board type stuff.

It is ugly, it is a travesty of justice and it will leave a mark on the sport.
That being said I think it is also legitimate to say there are a ton of character people involved in the sport and painting the entire league as rotten would be untrue and a disservice to all those who do good in the sport.
Any entity from charities to philanthropies to sports to business has a rotten core if you dig deep enough. That does not excuse it or make it right but it is a reality of our world unfortunately.
I will continue to look for the character, the good and the difference makers in the league as I try and enjoy the sport for the positives it brings.

He hasn't looked like a $6M dollar player let alone a $3M dollar player for the better part of 2 seasons. Monahan is toast. Unless some sort of miracle happens on the flight home to Calgary, I would suspect he will be sitting for Richardson sooner than later.
I know I'd rather have someone who is willing to forecheck hard and pay the price physically centering my 4th line versus Mr. Bailout being completely invisible. Would anyone even notice that he wasn't dressed? Maybe as his replacement will at least make something happen. The only downside will be that the Flames can no longer claim to have a $12M 4th line.
