Are you trying to defend the people who covered up a sexual assault?

looks like he is.
The player thing is tough. Especially for a guy on the fringes. You know if any of them tried to speak up their careers and everything they worked for are done. add in the hockey culture that exists to this day and I can understand not having the courage.
I'm not quite sure when the players started to hear rumors. It was just before the cup final I believe, so maybe at that time it was just rumors and they trusted management to investigate and do the right thing.
I still believe anyone in that meeting should be finished in the NHL. I think times have changed enough that public pressure will see that happen, even if the teams themselves don't want to fire them.

Unless you’re referring to the sexual assault victims as the ones being canceled, this is easily one of the worst posts of the year. And it’s been a pretty bad year.

i skimmed the executive summary of the report and my takeaway was that there were some elements that the player and coach agreed happened, and others where they disagree.
the hawks management team had a meeting before the cup to discuss this, but they can't seemingly remember everything that was discussed.
it will be interesting to see where this ultimately goes.

I heard the whole conference, start to finish. It’s pretty clear who the investigators believe. And even if you accept the most favourable version to the team, they had to fire him immediately. And they didn’t. The most favourable version is sexual harassment which they decided to ignore for the duration of a cup run.

It's called accountability, and about time it applies to white men in positions of power that abused that power.

This is what I have an issue with and is why I believe as captain Toews has some responsibility here.

People who made the decision to cover it up and delay a proper response (McDonough, Quennville) should be held accountable harshly.
People who didn’t have the authority to take action on their own (maybe Cheveldayoff, possibly even Bowman) should be given some level of slack, IMO.
Players who actively taunted and bullied John Doe should be outed and punished as well. That is reprehensible, and shouldn’t be ignored as “boys being boys”.

You should read the entire report, not to dispute any of your positions on it, but just to have a balanced view. I found it interesting anyway.

I really don’t believe he does. Based on the info, maybe a couple guys knew about something in 2010, there were rumours of what happened into 2011 about Alrich being gay and coming on to players and having some sexual interactions with a player, but it doesn’t appear as though anyone really knew that an assault occurred.
There is also the part where an ex-Blackhawks player allegedly asks one of the black aces (not a John Doe) if he misses his boyfriend Brad and calls him a f****t in 2014 during a game. Is that on Toews? That’s on hockey culture, imo. That’s bro culture ####.

Yes, there are conflicting stories from John Doe and Aldrich - a sexual predator wouldn't come out and say exactly what he did. Also, I expect most straight guys who are abused by men struggle to fully explain what happened. Aldrich demonstrated a pattern of behaviour though including sending dick pics "by accident" to another Black Ace.
The fundamental issue with the team is that they simply did nothing to mitigate the risk posed by Aldrich to the players or vulnerable team staff until it was convenient for the team. An intern was then sexually harassed by Aldrich. The Hawks proceeded to give Aldrich a sweet severance deal, put his name on the cup, and gave him a reference to work at a program with younger people.
Aldrich went on to abuse a high school player in Michigan.

They should all be charged with Criminal Negligence (if that's a thing)

Disagree with the bolded. How can you say homophobic bullying is reprehensible, but then say Cheveldayoff and maybe Bowman should be cut some slack? I think Cheveldayoff, coach Q and Bowman should be in with your first point and be held accountable harshly.
There is lots they could have done. Even something as simple as sending him home and getting him away from the team.
If they didn't want to screw up their cup run, give some family emergency excuse and properly deal with it after.
Instead, he gets to stay, join all the team events, have the cup, and get a recommendation letter? what a crock.

Well I will, but the investigator's comments were pretty clear. And I've also read the key portions on the meeting and the "competing" stories of Aldrich and the player. And like I said, on their best day, this was sexual harassment which was shunted aside for expediency.
Also, for those who are talking about this like it was acceptable at the time, this was 2010. In 2000 I saw a major NYC law firm turf their very valuable named senior partner one or two days after drunken sexual harassment at a party to celebrate a huge merger with a huge Canadian law firm. Cost them millions in lost revenue.

I’ve read the report, and am not excusing the players, but it doesn’t sound like anyone knew at the time what was happening. Toews said he didn’t learn until after Aldrich was already gone. For the bolded I don’t think they could have stopped it if they didn’t know. In the report there’s zero indication that he went to any of the captains about it.
The taunting of JD was in the following training camp, and the taunting of BA1 was in a different teams training camp 4 years later. All this is after it happened.
It’s really hard to place much blame on the players after it’s been brought to managements attention and they are dealing with it. With the exception of the players who later taunted them. The taunting is extremely disgusting as well and the players who did it should be made public and should be punished. That’s unacceptable.
It’s crazy how much info is in that report. You can obviously tell who JD is. Thought that they would have redacted more

He may be telling the truth. But that's exactly what Quenneville said before and it was a lie.

Two problems:
1. Just because someone lied, doesn’t mean someone else is automatically a liar
2. JC said he first learned of the allegations over the summer. Based on the report, that’s believable or at least a smart selection of words, since the assault was never discussed with JC present and HR never investigated.

Well in that report there’s zero mention of JD talking to any players about it, and considering that it all took place within a month (ish) I imagine there might have only been rumours or whispers.
I think it’s safe to assume that by training camp 2010 everyone had some sort of idea, even though all the facts might not be accurate (rumours etc) but at that time he’s already been let go. I’m just thinking to any job I’ve had, where if something goes on with an employee and management then upper management steps in and take care of it. It’s never been my job as an employee to investigate.
My point is that I’m not sure how much blame you can point at Toews or the other players. Except for the scum who taunted him later on. Everyone in that meeting should be held responsible though. Maybe not Gary, as he was the only one pushing it.

Yes, I am not saying because Q lied so did Toews. I'm just saying these "I learned of it later" stories can't just be taken at face value. Let's just say I'd be less than shocked.
Not sure who JC is.
