It’s four full years, plus playoffs this year, minimum. And there’s no guarantee Eichel walks - he extended in Buffalo, Calgary is better in every respect imaginable.
If you get Eichel, your odds of retaining Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Lindholm go up.
Eichel isn’t injury prone - he has a neck injury. He wants to go with the surgery that, while unproven in the world of hockey, has seen success with MMA fighters.
He wants this procedure instead of the surgery that has left Peyton Manning unable to grip a football or feel his fingertips.
What extra future piece is not worth preventing the Vegas Golden Knights from getting him? I’m glad people are high on Matthew Coronato - there’s no guarantee he even signs here.
There isn’t one single asset in the pipeline that isn’t worth including to close this deal. There just isn’t.
We should’ve traded Dion to Boston for Thornton. It would have seemed stunning in the moment, but history would have borne it out as the correct move.
This is the correct move. If it doesn’t work out, we didn’t trade a bunch of future 1sts. We traded one. Even If we trade 2, it’s probably still fine.
If nothing else, you drive the price up on Vegas even further. There’s no folding at this stage.

Is Zary >= Krebs?
Is Valimaki >= Hague?
Is Calgary’s 1st round pick >= Vegas’s 1st round pick?
Is Dube >= Smith?
I’m honestly not sure about any of these questions.

Dube has age and term over Smith. But more importantly, we'd have to make our pick unprotected, and subtracting Valimaki and Dube could potentially make it top 15.

No, yes, yes, situationally yes. If it's all about Krebs, so be it. Mangiapane is untouchable to me.

How funny would it be if a Calgary-area (Okotoks) kid in Peyton Krebs is what ends up costing the Flames a shot at Eichel?

Love Mangiapane. But if that's the price for Eichel, you do it.

I wonder if Buffalo would be interested in Kylington after his start. I wouldn't like it but he has the most increased value after the start of the season.

Could this not just be Buffalo using the media in hopes of other teams upping the ante?

Why? Mangiapane is the definition of a player you sell high on.

Lmao what?
If anything Mangiapane's value around the league is still incredibly undervalued

I'm not sure that Mangiapane isn't the Flames best player RIGHT NOW.
You want to compete now, why trade your best player?

I don't know if that's true. I try and sign him to a good value contract long term. I think he is only going to get stronger and more fiesty

To clarify, obviously the ask isn't 1 for 1. I don't want him included along with 3-4 other premium assets.

He’s a 25-year-old former sixth round pick who needs a contract next year.
He’s an undersized winger.
If you can turn that into a 0.95 point per game Centre who is younger, you do it.
And if you let the cost of Andrew Mangiapane stop you from doing the deal, you deserve to lose your job.

Would you go for eichel at the expense of this year? Would be a huge fail IMO with this coach and the apparent chemistry of the team. Especially considering the unprotected 1st going the other way.

Me too. Either we get him or we don't. Neither makes nor ends the season. This negotiation just needs to end.

He had to extend in Buffalo. They owned his rights and he had no leverage. At the end of this contract Calgary will have not hold his rights and the only leverage they have will be the 8th year of a possible contract.

No, they go down. You can only have so many high priced players, and three guys north of $9M on the forward lines is not sustainable for a team.

Eichel isn’t injury prone
|
Yes, he is. He has never played a full season in the NHL. What would you call a player that has missed 35, 14, 5, 15, and 21 games in the last five seasons? That is injury prone.
There are reasons to trade for the guy, but there are just as many to bow out of this and press forward with what we have.

I don't get why this report carries more weight than any of the other reports over the last couple days.
Last week Anaheim were the favourites. Yesterday Calgary and Vegas were the two favourites, and until it's actually done then there is no reason to get too concerned about it.
