Conspiracy theorist in me sees Dube playing centre and Monahan on the 4th line as a way of prepping for the future but also as a way to possibly convince Monahan he'd be better off waiving his NTC if he's previously said no.

Sutter is all about Sutter, but he's not going to sewer a major deal by letting the primary asset that has to leave town get injured in a game. A deal of this magnitude probably has ownership buy in, so there's probably been a big sit down of all the big heads and everyone is on the same page. If Sutter wasn't, and he was doing his own thing, he never would have been hired, by anyone in the NHL.

Part of it could be to shelter Monahan or part of it could be to give Dube a serious look in a scoring center role. None of it could have anything to do with Eichel or everything could be about it.
This deal just needs to end with Calgary getting the player. It has been over 3 years since there was a trade that could shift the organization occurred. This deal makes sense for both teams and to me it is the Flames shooting their shot. You have the coach, goalie, and some key players you think you can win with. Get that elusive elite center then it actually makes sense to me this team could contend.

Monahan didn’t “run away” from a hit. He got bumped from behind, shoved back a bit and then went back to the play.
But Monahan isn’t a fighter. He doesn’t do it well. It would have served no purpose to get beaten up by an idiot like Kassian. You don’t see other offensive minded centres the same size having to fight a lot. Scheifele is the same size, has one. Mackinnon has none. Matthews has none. Barzal - none. Barkov - none.

FWIW an HF poster, the same one who said they heard back in July from a source that Calgary had something tabled with Buffalo and was waiting for the ask to drop, just wrote these posts:
https://hfboards.mandatory.com/posts/180743998/
https://hfboards.mandatory.com/posts/180744222/
From seeing their post history, also said a couple days ago that the Sabres ask from the Flames doesn't include anyone on the current Flames top line (Gaudreau, Lindholm, Tkachuk)
I don't know this poster or what their source is but just thought it was interesting and wondered if any CPers have heard anything similar. Still not getting my hopes up.

It would be awesome if we get this done, but I really hope we don't end up emptying the cupboard.

I’ve never understood this. Size doesn’t matter in that regard. I don’t recall seeing Jagr fight back.

Hockeyfights doesn’t list any Jagr fights. I do remember watching a Mario fight. He got his jaw broken by Bobby Gould.

Almost as if players bring different elements depending on what they’re good at, and not just big=fight.

Potential for the end of week roster player swaps?
In: Kravstov
Out: Monahan, Mangiapane?
Eventually mixing Eichel in?

This team will be hard pressed to make the playoffs with Mangiapane. I don't see it happening without him.

Losing Mangi just as he's breaking out would make me sad.

I just wish Mangiapane's name was actually Mangiapanov...if he was Russian Dammage would stop trying to trade him.

Waive or good luck on your next contract. That would be quite the strong arm tactic. I'd be okay with it if the result is Eichel haha

Just for the heck of it if the decision is coming down to a choice between Mangiapane or Dube who would you rather move?
Mangiapane is on the verge of a breakout. I think he can score 30 this year and is such a scrappy player. He is also heading to a deal in the $6M per range long term so that is concerning if the team is adding a $10M player.
Dube is not as good as Mangiapane today but could have a similar or higher ceiling. He can play up the middle and has a ton of speed. He is signed for 3 years at a good deal and could be more easily retained down the road as deals like Lucic, and Backlund are done by the time he needs an extension
If the team wants to Re-sign Johnny and Tkachuk then Mangiapane makes the most sense to move. If they want to win it all this year then Dube makes more sense. If they plan to move Tkachuk or not re-sign Johnny than Mangiapane is a must keep.
Some “speculation” from people on Twitter/HF is the Sabres want one of those 2 and the Flames are trying to offer Valimaki or other prospects instead. Could be all BS

To me, Eichel signals a win now, and Mangiapane is the better win now player. So Dube is expendable and if he's a key cog to acquire Eichel, start the car.
Love Dube but his ceiling I see as a good two-way 2nd liner.
