Berrios is like a top 25 pitcher the last five years and I think will hold up far better than Ray. He’s younger and actually has a third pitch. We’ve seen this last month how ordinary Ray looks when he is topping 95 instead of 97. I think the first couple Ray years will be solid enough but when he declines it will be fast. I think a five year 130 million dollar contract for him will be a mistake and will price is out of extending our core. For me I’d rather resign Matz and reinvest the savings elsewhere.

Lefty on the bump. Not a great matchup.

You think a team will offer Ray a five year deal? I agree that would be a ticking time bomb. Matz I’d love to resign just based on last nights gem. As for Berrios, I just don’t see his pitches overpowering much. I think he’s a perfect third guy, but I have serious doubts on him being an ace. His ERA to me says he isn’t but it’s obviously very debatable as his WHIP is elite.

Yankees have officially lost
C'mon Nats, do us a solid. We gave you Adams for the hollowed out corpse of Brad Hand.

Bo gets on the board and can backdoor 30 bombs this year. Quietly having a hell of a season.

I would give Ray 5 years no question, I'd even give him 6
The Jays' window is the next 3-5 years, while these guys are still somewhat affordable and under protection
Also, it isn't my money, so...

Jays should absolutely, 100% bring back both Ray and Matz.
I think both like it with the Jays, and would love to be back as long as they aren't getting low balled. Give them fair offers and get them signed. Both are a good age for starting pitchers too.
Now is not the time to cheap out with this team poised to be a legit contender, especially when you factor in the division they are forced to navigate.
Ray
Berrios
Ryu
Manoah
Matz
That is a very good rotation, as we've seen for a few months now. Then you have chicken Strip and Pearson as long men who can spot start.

Have to think he will end up top 10 in MVP voting. He is top 10 in a lot of offensive categories. He is a really well rounded player and this is his first true full season.
I would need to look up the numbers to back it up, but it does seem like his defence improved a lot in the second half. Those offline routine throws seem to be happening a lot less.

Oh, I wouldn’t. What the Jays management has to consider is the cost of signing their young batters in the future will cost a lot. Can’t waste money on guys who won’t have a good chance of being great in four years. Especially as that would be tying up elite money. We all know there are limits to teams spending money and that would be a big mistake to go beyond three years.
