I just feel like people always take these unfair runs at Scorp all the time, and try to #### all over anything he says or does. .
To me it just felt like a jerk comment to bring his career into it, especially with the timing of it since he just announced he was writing for the different nation sites.

I agree. He has, arguably, been the team's best defenceman.
Training camping camp is only ~1/2 complete, but so far, Kylington must be penciled in as least the 7th defenceman.. probably 6th..., right?

That's fair but I'd rather start day one with a guy already going full throttle than a vet who's comparably coasted through the preseason.

Funny part is that’s the right response.
Zadorov and Mackey both had good clean hits, and both were just willing to skate away and avoid the fight.
To me that’s more infuriating to the other team, just skating away from the guy trying to chase you down. Same reason that Tkachuk should have never fought Kassian, it’s better to not oblige him in that scenario.
If Gudbranson does the exact same thing on the Zadorov play that he did on the Mackey play then it would have cost the team a goal.
Let the other team look like idiots by standing there trying to start a fight, no reason to oblige them in either case. Personally I don’t think it really sends a message to other teams at all to fight a guy who is most likely going to be an AHLer in pre-season.
I’d much rather they send a message to the guys who actually are going after our stars, not the guys who are butthurt after a clean hit. Now If Gudbranson went and grabbed Kassian against the Oilers and pounded his face in then that would mean a lot more to me in terms of sending a message.

What's annoying is you'd probably want to rotate through Valimaki, Mackey and Kylington but Gudbransons contract will likely force playing time, and now you have waiver issues with Mackey and Kylington.
I'm not a huge Kylington fan but he has had an excellent camp and probably deserves a bottom pair spot at the moment but I fear the Stone/Gudbranson signings will ultimately force more talented players off the roster.

I don't see Sutter as giving a damn about a player's contract. He'll play whoever he believes will best help them win the game.

All things being equal, Mackey waiver exemption likely means he is the one going to Stockton

On the other side of the puck, Travis Green is savage... "I don't think we had a very good game. Didn't have a lot of good hockey players. We deserved to lose tonight."
Jesus Christ, tell us how you really feel...

I would put see it as a Scrub Ahler trying to start a fight with his young partner after a hard clean hit so Gudbranson jumped on the grenade and went old grand dad protective mode.
He obviously wanted to fight Mackey. He may even just decide to start throwing out of anger Mackey wouldn't. Gudbranson wasn't having that.
An ept analogy would be what I saw at bars when I use to go there.
When I went to bars and was a smoker you would often see some dumb drunk caveman trying to sucker someone into a fight . They'd throw out slurs, slap them do any thing to entice the unwilling person then a random dude or one of his friends would come out of no where to beat up the bully.
Simply McEwen was the bully, Mackey was unwilling participant, Gudbranson was the bully killer.

Mackey can go to the AHL and play top pairing minutes that’s fine.
I think we could see 8 dmen on the roster to start the year and I think we could see a lot of rotation if the dmen.
Hanifin and Tanev will get the most minutes but I feel like all of Andersson, Zadorov, Valimaki, Gudbranson, Stone, and Kylington will battle for ice time all season potentially.
Probably see different looks against different teams and especially home and away depending on the line matching.

But perhaps I'll never understand that aspect of the game. IMO fighting should be outlawed.
|
Just because your a big guy doesn't mean you can fight.
I have a friend who's 6'5" never fought in his life. He's actually had people who tried starting fights with him but when he stands up it goes the other way.
Hockey's different as most players are big and tall. You can't just assume because a players big he can fight. It's not part of there came most likely.
Same goes for littler players . Can't assume they can't fight because they are small. Tootoo was great at it. I remember watching him when Brandon came to Medicine hat . Dude could throw.

I don't think the team will carry a 23 men roster out of the gate. The way things stand right now I can see Stone being assigned to Stockton. At least I really hope that neither Valimaki, nor Kylington gets waived.

Head traumas happen in everyday life without being a willing participant and making millions while doing it.
Bullies need a good knuckle sandwich no matter where they are.
