Funny, if Wolf had allowed a goal, he would have got the win, but he blanked 'em, so Markstrom gets the W.

Didn't see the game, but I'm happy with the score. How did they look tonight?

Mackey is a big guy. He's capable of defending himself. If there really needed to be a fight — there didn't — he could've taken MacEwen himself with no need for an instigator.
But perhaps I'll never understand that aspect of the game. IMO fighting should be outlawed.

Yeah that is the worst take of the night... Gudbranson stepped in when a goon was trying to fight a Flames rookie.
Joke of an instigator call too

Weird schedule. Flames don’t see the Canucks again until the end of January.

What we have been sorely missing for the last few years is guys standing up for each other.
Creating an identity under Sutter.

MacEwen and Mackey are the same age.
And that was an instigator call by the book. Easy.

I often agree with you but couldn't disagree more on this one...ref made a bad call too. MacEwen was trying to instigate a fight after getting hit clean. Also, it's preseason...sticking up for a teammate is never a bad thing.

Not sure I agree with that, Gubranson had his gloves off and was into it before the Nucklehead even knew what was going on. Pretty clear instigator in my opinion.

Goddamn rights.
I want the Flames to serve notice that they aren't putting up with peoples bull#### this season. They have some big tough SOBs now. No more getting pushed around or wilting when the going gets tough.
Mackey may be able to hold his own, but he shouldn't have to answer for a hard clean body check. I ####ing hate that when the other team comes after a guy for a clean hit. Good on Gudbranson stepping in setting that prick straight, real quick like.

That is really uncalled for. Someone posts something very positive and on same night you somehow find a way to put them down with that information. You must feel really good about yourself.

I liked Gudbranson sticking up. Same reason Tkachuk should never have been the one to answer to Kassian at all. Have guys with roles on the team that do that.

I thought Gudbranson looked better tonight. He still looked slow on some plays, but a much better game tonight.
As for Zadorov, he had a good hit that lead to a goal, and a couple of decent stick plays in the D zone. His passing still seems off, hope it can improve rather quickly.
Gaudreau had himself quite a game. I thought he looked great, and hungry out there. Tkachuk and Lindholm were also awesome with him on a line.
Another good game by Kylington in all situations.
Duher had himself a decent game, as I kept noticing him using his speed and driving play.

My problem with it is Nucklehead was already trying to instigate a fight because he was butt hurt.
He wanted a fight, he got one
Maybe they should both get an extra 2
Either way it's 2 mins to send a message across the entire league.

I think the conversations Gudbranson said he had with Sutter gave him a clear idea of what role he has on this team. Plus, this is a pre-season game - make it clear to opponents what to expect from the Flames this year.
I'm not a proponent of fighting but he did what he's expected to do.

I’m looking forward to Gudbranson flipping the puck to Muzzin then tuning him

In fairness to Scorp, he hasn’t had the benefit of having professional hockey writers to follow and emulate here in Calgary.
All he has to do is read or watch Eric Francis and he can’t help but allow biases and opinions to creep into his work.
The old timers here had the benefit of a guy like Duhatschek, a seriously good and hall of fame hockey writer.
The young ones get the norm of today’s “journalism” which is sensationalism and biased opinions.

Christ man, I don't like fights because they cause concussions and CTE. I'm close to someone with chronic migraines caused by head injuries sustained in his hockey career. I cringe whenever I see a fight. That's just me. If that makes me biased, great.
