Flames are faster in the top six/top four IMO

Bottom lines IDK...maybe slower, don't know those players as well

Faster than what?!?! The only new player in the top 6 is Coleman and he's not really fast. I don't know how they could faster unless all the players have been improving their speed, have they?

Man... that just really rubs in how bad the Gudbranson signing is - if $1M in cap savings can afford you an additional $3M AAV player at the trade deadline, that could afford upgrading from a middle-sixer to a first liner or a solid depth D. Not that I think the Flames are too likely to need to grab rentals at the deadline this year, but if it turns out we are contenders then that extra cap space could have been handy.

Unfortunately the more likely thing is selling at the deadline

In reference to those saying the team has gotten slower:

Player changes (ranked by ice time and impact):

Coleman > Ryan
Pitlick > Bennett
Lewis = Leivo
Richardson < Nordstrom (but Ritchie has pretty good speed)

Zadorov >> Giordano
Gudbranson = Nesterov (and if Mackey plays, he is way faster)

Overall I think they have definitely gotten faster.

Also, Mangiapane and Dube will continue to see their roles grow, and they are both among the fastest Flames.

^^. Dube probably has the fastest wheels on the team, unless it’s Kylington. Mangi is not especially fast but he’s not slow either.

Is Pitlick really faster than Bennet? and Zadorov way faster than Gio?

Pitlick is not faster or better than Bennett, same with zadorov and Gio. Coleman is definitely better than Ryan but I am not sure if he is much faster.

The team is not slower or faster . Just bigger

Monahan - no hip injury - should be faster
Johnny Hockey - new wife - life is good so I expect more jump in his game = faster
Zadorov - should be faster than 37 year old Gio
Mangiapane - hopefully worked on his balance in the offseason and won't be on his butt as often - definitely faster

If the Flames are able to play faster, IMO it will be thanks to a training camp with Sutter and hopefully a better focus on conditioning in the offseason. I don't believe team speed has appreciably changed based solely on personnel changes.

The teams most desperate need on the ice is consistent effort.

Core players HAVE to find a new base level of compete night in and night out and not dip below that level.

Then, they need to find a way to elevate their game as the stakes rise.

We've done this song and dance too many times with the same results. How will this season be different? Will it be Sutter and Muller elevating these players?

I find it a very long stretch to believe coaching can correct the issue. But we are going to find out.

I don't see a faster team. I see a bigger team. I see additions to the team that can play dump and chase hockey. I don't see any improvement in speed or skill. We got bigger, we got tougher, and we got much of it for one year.

I agree. I wonder about the players' comments last season regarding the pace of practices being so much higher under Sutter. I think that does matter quite a bit. Maybe we are not a faster team personnel-wise, but we are a faster team in execution. [He says with the usual pre-season optimism]

I think the one thing that this roster has compared to the last two seasons is more of a set identity and defined roles.

We will see if that helps us but my gut is Sutter will have these guys better prepared, they will have a very set and defined role that Sutter wants them to play, and they will know what is expected of them each night.

Pitlick is faster than Bennett. I don't know about Zadorov versus Gio.
