Awful news. He is in my top 3 for comedians. I just saw him perform at the Blackfoot in November 2019. It was sold out so he added a Sunday show, which we attended. We went to the sports bar to eat before the show and he was in there watching the Seahawks game. He approached us and was chatting during the remainder of the game.
During his show, he ended up doing an extra hour set that night. I was blown away. Almost two full hours and the last hour was basically just recalling old jokes, "this way my Dad's favorite joke, this is my Son's favorite joke".
Fun fact - Norm said that night, that he has played the room at the Blackfoot Inn (the Laugh Shop/Yuk Yuk's), more than any other room with the exception of the Comedy Store, where almost all comedians hone their shows. He got his start in Calgary before moving down to the States.
He stood beside me at the bar in the Blackfoot Inn one night before a show watching a March Madness game. I wanted to say hi but didn't. Missed opportunity but I'll always remember the many times I saw him perform. One of my all-time faves.

It was Norm’s response to Adam Eget, upon Adam informing Norm that Hitler was already dead, so there would be no point in anyone attempting to kill him.
Though I truly didn’t know he was sick.

For me this news came out of left field. I so enjoyed his delivery, his look on life and how to make it funny.
I just got kicked in the nuts and it hurts a lot.
RIP Norm
Ugh. No. My favorite comedian. I finally saw him live last time he came through Calgary. So glad I did
Yeah, I saw him in 2015 at the Laugh Shop. My wife and I convinced ourselves to leave our newborn at home to see that ol chunk of coal live. He started with complaints about eating a pork chop and finished with Bill Cosby jokes. God damn it, was Norm ever great. After Carlin, this one hurts the most.
Part of me is glad he kept the cancer a secret, and was able to continue to do what he loved right to the end. That's such a Norm thing to do.
My fave all time without question when it comes to comedy. I was like 14 years old watching him on Weekend Update, you never knew what he might say or do. And thats exactly what his comedic genius was all about.
Always loved the fact that other comedians look at Norm as the gold standard. He's the comedian that makes comedians laugh. A true legend.
Marc Maron just re-released his conversation with Norm from 2011.
That's the only "positive" thing about this is that it will be a wonderful celebration of the man and his work. A chance to re-discover some of his best stuff, and for others to discover it for the first time.

Maron has had to do 3 re-releases in the last couple weeks. Norm, Ed Asner and Michael K. Williams.
Absolute legend. The world is a little more crappy and a lot less funny tonight.

I'm just profoundly sad today. He was always a personal favorite, but I never realized how much his work meant to me.
Me Doing Standup has to rank as one of the most underrated comedy specials of all time. It has my favorite Norm joke of all time: Janice is Missing.
My favorite too. So many levels of genius.
I also watched his last appearance on Letterman earlier, always a favorite. Such a genuine moment
