I started carrying cash simply to pay at the weed stores.

I haven't used cash in years but I still disagree with this. My mom is a huge Flames fan and goes to a few games a year and now won't be able to buy anything there since she doesn't use a card at all. She's old school and nothing will make her change her ways.
Who wants to bet the Saddledome still has those faucets where everyone touches instead of upgrading to touchless? That's how we will know if this decision was actually about safety.

What happens when someone's bank is down? Do you need to come with cards for all banks?

If you don’t have a phone or a debit/credit card, being able to go to flames games is the least of your worries. Within 10 years you won’t be able to function as a member of society, if not already applicable.

Believe it or not, but there are older people who don't use cell phones or have credit cards. You have effectively blocked them out. I rarely use cash as I collect travel points on my VISA, but I think this is a dumb move. I don't buy the whole "covid" thing either as there are still hundreds of touch points all over the arena.

every stadium is going this way...most of the big ones in the US already are cashless
keeping change on hand for a few hundred people that prefer cash not to mention how much cash slows things down is a major inconvenience for everybody.

I don't think you're allowed to call people who don't have a debit card "disabled."
But I also think the difference between someone in a wheelchair trying to enter a building without a ramp and someone without a debit card trying to pay in a place that doesn't take cash is that the person in the wheelchair cannot just go to the bank and acquire the ability to walk (for free!).
Debit cards have been around for almost 30 years. It's ok to leave portions of society behind when they get to the point where they're actively choosing to be literally decades behind the rest of society. If a cashless world doesn't get them, soon enough, death will.

Your mom refuses to change so the Flames shouldn't either?

If you have a bank account you have a debit card...unless you lost it or opened an account in the 80s and haven't been back since. Its not like its some exclusive club.
The raiders new stadium went cashless and people were threatening to boycott on social media...Every game sold out in a few minutes

Easy solution is for you to buy or help them buy a prepaid card. They work just like cash but the change is left on the card. I'm sure everyone knows about this but it's such an easy solution for anyone who refuses to use debit or credit. The card is as good as cash and the only difference is you don't get a bunch of filthy change. Yes you have to use the internet to order one but its easier than an ATM since you don't need to leave home. If you have a loved one that refuses not to use cash and is missing out buy them a few $100 cards.

Cash is legal tender.
Like I said we will find out if this is actually a safety issue when you visit a saddledome washroom and they have or don't have touchless faucets and/or touchless hand dryers.

On the flip side of this, I popped into the bagel shop on Heritage and Elbow a couple months ago then instantly walked out when I saw the 'cash only' sign. I'm sure I missed out on some good bagels, but who the hell carries cash!?
You'd think they'd be better off paying their 3% merchant fee to the credit card companies versus all the people like me that turn around and walk out. Heck, just raise you're prices to pass that off to the consumer.
Edit: I guess it's more than the 3% merchant fee as cash could obviously be unclaimed revenue, but still...

I know cash is - but as others have stated, that only matters when it comes to paying debts. Literally anything can be used as payment as long as the seller and buyer agree. In this case, the CSEC is saying they are not accepting cash.
I don't really buy that they strongly believe this is a huge safety issue and rather it is more about making their transactions more efficient, lowering their costs, and building a database of purchasing habits of their clients for the purpose of targeted marketing and promotions.

I don't think I've ever seen a situation where an outage affected only one bank. Usually, if a system is down, it's either Interac or the credit card companies (or both) all going down at once.
Obviously, there's a risk it happens during a game and they won't be able to make any sales, but they must be willing to take that chance. I wonder if that's something they could get insurance against?

Wrote up a story about this for FlamesNation. Few hours later, the Facebook post sharing the post has over 300 comments (!!) — many calling the policy illegal, and tons of other disinformation.
Ended up having to update the story with a clarification ... no, it's not illegal.

It’s like when buffets have tongs for items like cookies. Can’t have someone pick up a cookie with their hands - they might brush a finger against a cookie someone else will take. No, instead use these tongs 100 people will all handle.

Except for the whole ritual where we touch and pull the bill or coin out exactly right before we hand it over. Same for the change you get back which has just been handled. I can't believe you are actually this thick.
