The problem with celebrity is that it gives these people an audience, even if they know nothing about the topic they chose to speak about. Look at Neil Young’s comparison of the Oil Sands to Hiroshima.

I have said it for years, but Theo is nothing but a jackass.

If it’s true that he was touting honorary degrees as proof of academic achievement then that is pretty ####ing funny.

Too stupid to even know what honorary degree means - that’s a new one.

I'm not going to go reading through Fleury's tweets, but from the OP I am gathering that his response to someone who called him out on him using honorary degrees as a credential was to say

"Same as real one".

LOL

This sums it up.

He suffered a lot, did some good things, but that is no excuse for his reprehensible statements and actions.

I hope he gets well and can reconcile with the club and the NHL.

Look how absolutely NOTHING came from Neil Young's statement. Sounds like you just proved my point.

I really wish Theo was humble like Iggy. These two are the two greatest Flames in history - yet we see one who keeps falling from grace every time he opens his mouth and shoots himself in the foot. I really wish the guy didn't have so many chips on his shoulder.

No, it's not. This is the precise MO of grifters masquerading as intellectuals in the realm of Christian apologetics.

Theo was maybe the most talented Flame ever. It’s such a shame what happened to him, for which James holds a huge responsibility, but also Theo himself.

It is ironic that in defending his honorary degree, he acknowledges there are such things as "real" degrees.

It’s a good thing Joe Nieuwendyk’s Conn Smythe trophy and the three Stanley Cups on three different teams are clogging his ears so he can’t hear you.

For me, it’s just sad. Loved the guy growing up. Now he’s just a disaster, he needs help. It’s not going to get any better any time soon. We’re watching a slow motion train wreck in real time. It’s just sad.

I think you can be a victim AND be a complete ####### at the same time.

They are not mutually exclusive.

2 of the rings and the Conn Smythe came on different teams so how do they impact his status as a Flame?

I wonder whether a portion of his behavioural concerns these days are related to a near lifetime of alcohol and drug misuse. I have worked around enough alcoholics and drug addicts (including those who are recovered) to know that their brains aren’t nearly as effective in differentiating reality from whatever it is they believe.

I can still feel empathy for what the guy has gone through but he is also a prime example of someone who has effectively self sabotaged their career repeatedly.

Every strength carries its own weakness within it.

Fleury's strength has always been that he doesn't care what other people think. When people told him he was too small to make the NHL, he proved them wrong, because he didn't care what they thought. That's his strength. It becomes a weakness when he doesn't inform himself about issues (because he doesn't care what the experts think) and doesn't keep his trap shut about his wrongheaded views (because he doesn't care if people think he should be embarrassed).

It's a package deal, and you don't get the good without the bad.
