So JG says either no, or wants $9M, and no team offers that much for him, that’s Treliving’s fault?
IMO the only fault would be not trading him last year.

If Treliving thinks that Gaudreau takes this team to a Cup eventually, then he has to re-sign him. If not, then re-signing him would not be a great move. I’m personally on the fence with Gaudreau. I don’t know if he is or isn’t the guy.

Oh, is that all?

If Gaudreau was on the block at the deadline, I would expect a few teams to submit competing offers. It happens every year. If you are going to maximize return on a player, that’s the time to do it.

except he can Vito trades to almost every team. It's not much of a bidding war when only a couple teams can bid.

Well, TFP is reporting that Jacob Chychrun is on the block and all ARZ wants is two 1st round picks.
If one wanted a long term investment at LD....

Flames need to keep first round picks especially 2022-2023 unless the Echiel trade comes through and they loose one of them.

Well if it comes down to that and nobody wants JG. It will be Trelivings fault either way. Still think he’s verbally committed and announcement is pending before the season starts.

A couple teams? Every team in the league can put forward an offer. JG can say no, or yes, to all but 5.
Let’s say Dallas is on his NT list but are rolling and look to be a legitimate cup contender and they put in a pretty good offer for JG. Is it beyond comprehension that JG would say no? He has no kids. Why wouldn’t he go chase a cup?

NMCs and and NTCs are primarily used as a tool to prevent a player from being traded to losers, small markets, and crappy climates, so most of the Canadian teams and places like Buffalo, Columbus and a few others are usually the targets. Secondly, they are more often used to push a trade to a contender.
In rare cases, players will put contenders on their list to just try and prevent any kind of trade (Kadri for example who wanted to stay in Toronto).
I think it's cute that people think Gaudreau would be like Kadri and add contenders to his no-trade list just to try and remain in Calgary for a few more months rather than chase a Cup. I could be wrong, but I just don't see that happening.
Of course, this assumes he is still unsigned at that point and that the Flames are on the outside looking in. I agree with others, the worst position to be in would be squeaking into the playoff, keeping him for the low chance of a dream run, then losing him for nothing. That would suck. That is why unless this team is showing they can win it all, then don't take that risk. Only s SC would justify that. If they are struggling at all, just tear it down if Gaudreau can't be retained and trade him. Don't get stuck in hockey purgatory just to let him go UFA.

Your missing the point . He will have his say to which team he goes to. If say it’s between Tampa and Toronto , it wouldn’t matter to him if Toronto’s offer was better if he rather go to Tampa . He has the final say of which contending team he wants to play for. Granted I have a bad feeling if he is t re-signed and flames are in playoff spot, we won’t be getting anything for him.

But the Flames don't have to tell him who has made offers
Unless the GM pulls a Feaster

The chances of the Flames next two first rounders being better than Chychrun are extremely low. Guy might be the most under rated player in the league.

Lol in this day and age? Teams of every sport are are breaking rules when it comes to signing and trading players . If Tampa ,in my proposed scenario, wants Johnny’s camp to find out they are interested in him it won’t take more than 10 minutes .

2021/2022 Trade Speculation and Rumours
Does anyone know if there is any salary cap benefit to waiting till the season starts before acquiring eichel? My understanding is that every team has to be under the cap on day one of the regular season before it can put players on LTIR.
In that case, Buffalo could hold onto him until after day one of the regular season and then put him on LTIR. At which point they could trade him to a team without that team having to send back salary since he would remain on LTIR (as long as the team would be over the salary cap if he were not on LTIR).
It would only be temporary as he would eventually come off LTIR but a team could pull a kucherov with him and not have to give up roster players. The team could keep everyone on their current roster and worry about making cap space for him later (either later in the season or in the offseason if he’s not healthy until playoffs).
Is this a possibility or am I wrong about how the LTIR cap relief would work?

You are willing to give up the 2022 and 2023 first picks for him? Potentially the two deepest drafts in 10 years.
