You want the Flames trading a first and second for Christian Dvorak?

There goes one of our plan B/Cs. That being said, Armstrong had a desperate counterpart and took advantage of that. Montreal has also stockpiled picks over the past few years so can take a swing like this. We cannot.
Agree on the big game hunting analogy. Come up empty a lot of times. Can still improve the team with smaller deals. No one wants mony? Ok, who wants backs? What about Florida’s second rounder from the Bennett deal? The Eichel deal seems so unlikely, can’t put all your eggs in that basket. Has to be a deadline to move on and that should be fast approaching.

Nope. But I don't want to hear any more #### about how tight the market is and how hard it is to make a deal.

Can't argue with that. I also want to bring in really good players, while not giving up anything good.

No one said it was impossible to do a deal if you overpay.

It’s basically what direction the Flames want to take
It’s clear to me they trust the current core and standing pat is the way to go

Yup
Suspect the Flames could similarly trade their high picks for players that aren’t going to really change their fortunes

You don't think Treliving should have traded a 1st and a 2nd for Dvorak....right?
If not, im not sure what you are going on about here.

It’s not a huge overpay. It’s not like he is a 1 year rental. Montreal is getting a 25 year old ,middle 6 center , for 4 years at $4.5 million. Certainly could see him taking it up a notch getting traded out of that dumpster fire Arizona .
I wouldn’t want flames paying what Montreal did but then again I want the flames to rebuild. If they aren’t going to rebuild they need to do something. Standing pat with this core is another waisted season.

One thing I’ll say is that it makes a hell of a lot more sense for the Flames to be trading 1st round picks to “help now” than Montreal.
Montreal’s run to the final is NOT something I’d want to see the management of my team chase thinking it’s the foundation for future success.
Weber is a non-roster player, Price has been consistently meh…they would have been much better served to just take a timeout and enjoy having two 1st round picks in a strong draft year.

3-4 weeks away from training camp and it’s already a ‘waisted season’.

I’d be fine if the Flames were on the other side of a Dvorak deal at some point over last few seasons. Add picks which you can always use as currency later.
I guess our players have no value compared to that Coyotes powerhouse.

Remember when Iggy was mid 30s and it was a last kick at the can and time to rebuild?
The idea that a rebuild is needed when the best players are 23-28 is mind bottling

I understand your point, regarding age.
However, I believe the questions remain.
Are the Flames best players good enough to qualify the Flames as contenders?
Are they better than the other team’s best players on a consistent basis?

I’m certainly not advocating a Coyotes fire sale. I don’t really want a rebuild brought to you by the same people that brought us the last one.
It’s just that there are many examples of teams extracting value for their players. Unfortunately this team is just so thin that the idea of losing a single roster player for futures is inconceivable. Even if you trade the futures away for help later in the season.
