If he pans out to be nothing more than a 3rd pairing defenseman that's probably going to be a disaster for the Flames as they had high hopes for this player.
A year ago Valimaki was considered by most people here at CP to be close to untouchable.

Even now a lot of people would have him playing top-4 ahead of Zadorov.

The drop in Valimaki to the Flames 4th best under 23 is a big reason for the drop from #12.

The Flames are the only non-playoff club in the 25-32 group of pipeline teams... except for #32 Seattle who has no pipeline.

Looks like the well has run dry for some of the top teams of the past decade (and the Flames).

But on the positive side

For the Flames it’s more of a slow recovery from having no prospects at all… Pronman ranked them dead last in 2019.

And now for the rankings:

25. Edmonton Oilers

26. Calgary Flames

27. New York Islanders

28. Washington Capitals

29. Boston Bruins

30. Tampa Bay Lightning

31. Pittsburgh Penguins

32. Seattle Kraken

That was Dmitry Zavgorodniy. He had 4 points in 29 AHL games this year. Although I think he was better than those point totals show and he made some improvements throughout the year.

No chance, goalies with no pro experience are hardly worth the picked that was used for them. Sure there is a lot to be excited about, but the trade value today is negligible.

But on the positive side
Gotta laugh at Pronman's inclusion of the Oilers in "the top teams of the last decade". Also wondering who in the Oilers' organization is under 23 and would merit ranking it above the Flames' system. Just Yamamoto? Maybe Broberg? I mean, there is literally no one else on the roster or in the system who would be a top under-23. The huge down-ranking of the Flames' organization in these ratings in spite of adding a number of promising young prospects and just losing Tkachuck due to the age cut-off shows just how subjective these rankings are.

am I following correctly- dead last in 2019 (with Tkachuk coming off a 77 point season at age 21 and I suppose a few others like Dube- but I guess no Zary or Coronado) , then 12th, and now back to 26th?

He has Yamamoto, holloway, broberg, Bouchard, bourgault all as middle of the lineup players

Flames only had the 3

So it seems just a depth thing

Let's remember the Oilers were ranked 25th and the Flames 26th. So yes the Oilers are ranked higher - but by a single position. And he gave them a far worse drafting grade (D+) compared to the Flames (C+).

Broberg and Bouchard are both looking like players, but not great picks for where they were selected.

Holloway had a great year though.

It's expected that your prospect pool takes a hit when you graduate all your blue chippers and become a contender for a few years resulting in not drafting high anymore.....oh, wait.

lol

Okay, he ranked them 12th last year, but 31st in 2019. Way to go, team!

More rankings out

Quote:
17. Philadelphia Flyers

18. Florida Panthers

19. Vegas Golden Knights

20. Winnipeg Jets

21. Toronto Maple Leafs

22. San Jose Sharks

23. Chicago Blackhawks

24. St. Louis Blues
Still in the bottom half of the league

Taking the Flyers for example they have

One Top of the lineup player Joel Farabee
Two bubble top and middle of the lineup players Frost and Cam York
and three middle of the Line up players Samu Tuomaala, Yegor Zamula, Bobby Brink

out of their 6 best guys under 23 only Yegor Zamula is above 6 ft tall and he is listed as a 6-3 177 lbs 21 year old.

Florida ranked one spot behind them has Lundell as top of the lineup, Spencer Knight as starting goalie,
Grigori Denisenko, 5-foot-11 | 176 pounds bubble top and middle of the lineup player
Owen Tippett bubble top and middle of the lineup player
Mackie Samoskevich and Justin Sourdif as middle of the lineup players

Hard to see why Philly would be higher than Florida but for Farabee and Frost already being NHL players.

It will be interesting to see the players on the top end of the pipeline.

It already provides a glimpse of the Flames problems in trying to make a huge trade for Eichel. Florida and Philly both have 6 players that are marked for middle of the lineup or better while the Flames have 3.

It would be a lot easier for those teams to trade 2 or even 3 of their under 23 guys than it would be for the Flames to wipe out their 2 or 3 of their best guys under 23.
