I think this could get the wheels turning but I also think it could hinder Calgary’s chances of getting eichel - I’m assuming he would rather go somewhere like NY or Anaheim. If that’s the case, I doubt his new agent would spearhead setting up a trade to send him somewhere that he would not prefer.
At the same time, Calgary might be a place he could have some interest in… with his friend hanifin here as well as a few other skilled Americans in Gaudreau and tkachuk.

I think priority #1 for Eichel is just to get out of Buffalo, get surgery, and start playing hockey again.
Calgary might not be a place he’d prefer as a first choice but I don’t think he’d be opposed to it at all. Lots of other good players with USA Hockey here and if the Flames got him I assume they would back him and his doctor in the surgery he wants. He’s also someone who really wants to win and has never played for a coach as good as Sutter. It also seemed like his close friend Hanifin was a guy who really responded to Sutter’s coaching and praised his coaching style when asked about it in interviews. He could probably convince Eichel that Calgary is a great spot for him.

I get that people like Mangiapane, but where on earth is he going to play if we are keeping Tkachuk and Gaudreau long term? IMO his game isn't suited for RW.

I think every team is hesitant about this.
Imagine trading a ton for him, allowing him to get the surgery never done on an NHL player before, and him being unable to recover?
I don't think its just a concern the sabres have. Unless I am missing something.

I’m sure he’ll go virtually anywhere but I also imagine one of his new agent’s first questions was where he wanted to play if he had a choice. If the agent is the one that’s going to arrange a complex trade (possibly with 3 teams included), he will probably try to get the destination team that eichel wants. If the sabres are the ones setting up the trade, they’ll probably not care where he goes as long as it’s the western conference and they get what they wanted for him.

There is no realistic way to acquire Eichel now without sending big salary out.
I hope they do, but I don't think the Flames will get Eichel now.
If they do, here is my prediction on how it happens.
Three way deal with Calgary, St. Louis and Buffalo.
Eichel to Calgary
Tkachuk to St. Louis
Futures and cap dumps to Buffalo
I could also see Tarasenko getting moved to a 4th team via Buffalo as well, as I don't see Tarasenko waiving to go to the Sabres unless that won't be his final landing spot.
See, this is why I’ve been advocating a straight overpay for months.
The longer this drags on, the less likely we are to be the ones who get the player.
Maybe failing to get JE will prompt Johnny and Tkachuk to say “F this noise” and trigger a full on rebuild regardless of what prominent Londoner Murray Edwards wants.

I don't think this correct. I've been involved in a lot of deal negotiation, and one of the rules of thumb is that the side that is willing to hold out the longest is going to get the best deal. Patience always beats out desperation.
I imagine this is why Buffalo hasn't traded Eichel yet. However, the moment that they find a deal they are happy with, they are going to circle back to every interested party and disclose the deal, and let them know what the deal they need to beat is, hoping the other sides will get desperate enough to offer more.
There is nothing that disqualifies the Flames as suitors based on how long this trade process takes.

That’s only true when there are two parties negotiating.
When there is one team negotiating vs. multiple suitors, the suitor who holds out the longest often ends up holding the empty bag.
The first rule of negotiation is to determine the leverage on both sides.
The Sabres don’t appear to be desperate, even if they should be.

As much as I rag on our core of forwards. Eichel isn't that change. Ecspecially with him looking like he will miss half or all the season. This team is not in rebuild mode they wont throw away a year of cheap Lindholm, Hanifin etc.
I cannot wait until Eichel inevitably goes elsewhere and we can move on. Like it or love it ( I hate it) our core group seems to be set going forward and next year would be our tear down year. Hopefully with a new GM/Vision.
Well thankfully Mangiapane isn’t going anywhere and the Eichel to Calgary nonsense will soon be over. Looking forward to some sanity on this forum again once camp starts

Looking for sanity on this forum is a bit like looking for an iceberg in the desert.

Yeah look like Treliving gets one last swing with the core he built/inherited
My humble opinion is that the only way we get Eichel is if there's a three way trade involving Tkachuk. I don't think our gm has the stones to pull off such a deal.
He'll likely do nothing this year with Mathew, pay him his 9 mill next year then watch him walk the year after. I really hope he proves me wrong.
I'm also afraid he won't get a deal done with Johnny and will trade him for peanuts at the deadline.

He may waive. Russians like playing in Buffalo - big ethnic Russian community there.
To Buffalo:
Tarasenko
Neighbours
Zary
Calgary 2022 1st
To St Louis:
Tkachuk
Andersson
To Calgary:
Eichel
Parayko
Cap hits work
