0/12 RISP is garbage.

They get another decent start from Ray and hit like that? Nice teammates.

You know, I didn't even think of this last night, but if Montoyo wasn't going to give Kirk a chance to bat or win the game in the bottom of the 9th, why was Kirk still catching with a 1 run lead in the top of the 8th?

If you're going to take the bat out of the hands of one of your best hitters at an important time of the game, then you might as well sub in the better defensive catcher ahead of time to protect a late lead.

This team will always be a step behind and at a disadvantage with Charlie managing.

Long time reader of the thread, big time jays fan and just super frustrated that management we were so critical of when AA left has managed to build arguably the most exciting assortment of young talent mixed with veteran presence the Jays have ever had… and they continue to let a lame duck manager in Montoya blow game after game when it matters most. Gibby the old saying of third times a charm rings true here and if the Jays haven’t thought about bringing him back into the fold it’s a lapse in judgement.

42 games left, whats the record they need to have a shot?

30-12?

I don't see this happening.

And so it begins. Another inning ending double play.

...and another double play. I say this somewhat in jest but Vladdy should get benched for swinging at a 3-0 pitch 6" off the plate. Shouldve been 2 on 1 out instead of end of inning.

Benching Vlad seems like a bad idea.

Oh of course it is. Just pointing out the types of mistakes being made by the team right now.

Ya fair enough. Mistakes are magnified when the team is obviously struggling, especially Vlad.

Montoyo is a positivity, support guy, which is great for a young team trying to figure out how to major league.

But IMO, the Jays are now past that, and what they need at this point, in order to take the next step and learn how to win, is accountability and leadership.

But not only are they not getting that from Montoyo, I believe that his "hey, it's okay, we're all trying hard", good cop routine is actually detrimental at this point.

Interesting!

I am on tape delay (top 6th) and Hazel just said about the Tigers pretty much what I was trying to say about the Jays - they pushed a fundamental change in attitude away from 'try hard" to "do what it takes to win".

I really wish the Jays would take the same approach from management.

Are you implying that the Jays management group who signed Springer traded two top picks for Berrios are not trying to win?

Listen everyone here knows you hate Montoyo, there is no confusion regarding your position. I don’t think he’s great either. But to imply the Jays aren’t trying to win, like come on man.

It's not about not trying to win, it's about the way you approach it on a daily basis.

And having Montoyo out there giving everyone a participation ribbon each day is not the most effective path to success IMO.

And yes, that isn't just on Montoyo - management is who decides that he is still the skipper.

Meh. There are plenty of tactical moves, player deployment decision, etc you can critique Montoyo on. Fostering an environment of positivity and backing up his players seems like a good thing IMO.

Seriously.

Seems like every team they're chasing has won the last few days.

Yankees. Wont lose again.
Red Sox. Playing a soft part of their schedule and playing the Rangers later.
Athletics. Beating the Giants. I thought the Giants were supposed to be good?

Seattle is getting killed though. But they don't really count. Because that's a horrible ball club that somebody in the league owes favours too. No other explanation as to why they're where they are.
