and getting swept in the playoffs - let's see how it goes with a full slate of teams to play against

As much as I hate them they will have it easier than the Flames because they can score their way to wins which really helps when playing teams below them in the standings (it's how they dominated the Senators). That said as has been repeated several times their goaltending could sink them.

The Gretzky-era Oilers liked to blow out the weak sisters of the league too. It really helps to inflate your personal stats.

Can someone explain WAR% to me? I get WAR as a concept, I don't get WAR%. Is a 98% suggesting that the player is better than 98% of potential replacements? Or a 15% suggesting that the player will only be better than 15% of potential replacements?
What is the aim of this stat? Be above 50%?

98% means they are in the 98th percentile for WAR among players.
Aim is to be the highest possible.

So if there are 700 players in the league, then basically Hamilton is a top 14 player in the league?
I believe that is the correct understanding. I get the idea, and I feel that Hamilton is a very good player, but top 14 in the league? Not sure about that.
Is McDavid 100%?

Is there any site to look up these stats graphs? They’re incredibly interesting and I’d like to see how some Flames players fair. I tried some googling but can’t seem to find anything.

You guys watch/read too much sportsnet
It is certainly not a FACT the Oilers got better...they are counting on another career year from Mike Smith with worse D
Forwards might be a bit better...Derek Ryan isn't anything special and he will hardly play. Best part is the Oilers are now capped out for the rest of McDavid's contract. This is it.

It is based on position. Hamilton is being compared only against other players at his position.

Learned an interesting tidbit from Brayden Point's father today.
Not sure if this has been reported before, but apparently Calgary & Carolina were the only two teams to not even bother talking to Point during his draft year.

Oof.....pretty condescending, no? If you read the rest of my comments, I acknowledged the fact that I forgot about how their D got worse. Derek Ryan ain't a star player, but he's very useful. I think their forwards got better, which was my point, and I don't think that's incorrect.
