That's four highly thought of goaltenders that were taken in the first round, and Wolf who probably should have but wasn't because of his height.
Doesn't mean there won't be blips for all of them as any development isn't a straight line, and goaltending a whole other level above that.
|
Just saying that it is hard to spot a pro goalie before he plays against some pro competition.
The scouts and GMs do know what they don't know . 16 goalies drafted in the 1st round since 2000 including the 2 this year
At this point in time if doing a 2109 re-draft you be comfortable with the Flames taking Wolf at 26 OA instead of Pelletier?
ie Wolf is just starting his development and Pelletier is a year away from being put on the bad 1st round pick watch list.
I pretty much expect that Pelletier will get at least a handful of NHL games this season.

Well they did create a new goaltending department in December. Pretty significant change from the usual trend.

People want to use real time hockey events to generate possession stats and xGF, etc when the NHL does not even provide believable height and weight statistics
.

Bad comparison.
One (height/weight) are being jigged and have been forever to the tall side. Not sure why but it's always been the case.
Event stats are counted by independent sources that have no bias towards padding the stats in one direction or another.

The independently generated event stats are based on data provided by the league. No one is independently validating shot count or even qualifying quality of shot count. The time commitment and cost is prohibitive. So they take un-validated data and then spin it into other event stats which are then a secondary manipulation of that flawed data.

There are certainly some sites doing their own work as the NHL doesn't provide it all. Zone entries, passing danger level work etc has completely been done independently. Most of those sites are membership now.
The raw counting data is NHL for shot attempts for sure, but why is that flawed? And how are you sure it's not validated? I think (think not know) that I read somewhere that each event is counted numerous times to make sure the numbers match.
I think we'll see a move in data towards better models and better assumptions, but the work to date certainly isn't "spun" or "flawed" it's a starting point that will only get better, but makes sense in it's own right.
A shot from closer to the net and in front is certainly more dangerous.
That same shot on a rebound, pass or deflection is certainly more dangerous than just taking the shot itself.
Not all that flawed at all.

It is amazing how basically every post you make has at least one ridiculous comment in it. With the amount of posts you make that is actually quite the accomplishment.

Bingo should start a poll or something so we could how people ranked the team's prospects. That would be sweet.

It will be hard to outdo Gaudreau and Fleury. if he comes even close, we'll have our goalie for the next 10 or so years.
I have a good feeling about Wolf, he just seems to keep getting better.

My question is why haven't we tried to hire Everett's goalie coach? I can't say I know much about Sigalet, but you'd think back to back goalies of Carter Hart and Dustin Wolf ought to be good enough to land a guy a promotion.

The Silvertips had different goalie coaches for Hart's years than Wolf's. Their current goalie coach actually worked with Wolf growing up in Los Angeles and was hired by Everett the year Wolf became their starter.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up working for the Flames/Heat in the next couple of years.

Wolf has dominated Junior in a way that no goalie in our system has matched in a long time. Parsons had great stats but on an absolutely stacked team. Wolf has all the raw skills and takes himself out of position less than parsons did at the same level. Its hard to not be excited about Wolf even with his less than ideal size. Elite vision, hands and movement with solid positioning, whats even left to work on other than facing harder shots?

This isn't entirely true. Parsons played an extra year in London after Tkachuk, Marner and Dvorak left for the NHL, and he put up even better numbers. If I recall correctly, Parsons was the only reason London won a playoff round in 2017.

You do recall correctly, also threw down a masterful performance at the world juniors as well which can’t be overlooked. I still have high hopes Parsons can figure things out this year and get back on track and I’m pulling for the guy whose been through so much since turning pro. It would be extremely positive if Parsons could find a rhythm with Wolf trending upwards as well it a been far too long since this team has drafted stability in the goaltending.

All I can get

The Heat have signed goaltenders Andrew Shortridge and Matt Greenfield, ostensibly for the ECHL Mavericks.
Shortridge was with the Heat parts of last season.
Looks like the Heat may have a three-headed hydra in net in Werner, Parsons and Wolf. Interesting.

My guess is that the Heat still roll with two goalies and the Mavericks carry a spare in case of callups.
