Giving up 1st rounders in the range between 15 and 32, I would have little issue with if we were getting back a young elite player in his prime and with term.

But I can't help but feel our 1sts are going to be more valuable than that. Just too many holes to fill and one RFA offersheet, or one player acquisition at the expense of other decent roster players, isn't going to fix that enough to matter.

If we are not going to rebuild, which looks like we aren't, then go for it I guess.

But the Flames don't have any elite talent. It is known.

If I’m Gaudreau I’m probably a little wary of Sutter and converting the team to an islanders lite. What happens in 2-3 years when Sutter is gone? M

I still think he resigns. 7.5 or 8 long term.

Sign me up for Islanders lite!

Or you know, Sutter also has his own brand of hockey that has landed him two championships.

Either way, beats the hell out of whatever the McTurnover squad is doing. Abandon all defense! "This guy" will score, but we'll score more!

Wait.. what decade is it?

I wonder if Gaudreau is waiting to see what happens with the makeup of the team before he commits. If his good friend Monahan were to get traded that might make him less likely to resign.

Flames will over pay Zadorov $4.5M for five years.

Gaudreau will not be signed and will leave as a UFA next season 2022.

Next summer Flames will qualify Tkachuk with a multi year deal. Tkachuk will take the team to arbitration. Flames will agree to the two year deal at $9.5M. Tkachuk will leave as a UFA in 2024.

Monahan won't be traded. Monahan won't be resigned. Monahan will leave the team as a UFA in 2023.

Flames will make no more notable trades or UFA signings except to sign Michael Stone to a two year deal the beginning of September.

For the next two years the Flames will finish as the second wild card team in the west, just making the playoffs by one point on shootout wins in the final games of the season. They will go into the playoffs chanting and shouting the mantra "All you have to do is get in to win!". They will get swept both years and the four losses will be by more than three goals every game.

2023 Treliving and Sutter will not have their contracts renewed. The organization will start another misguided attempt to rebuild on the fly with a new GM and head coach.

Such has been prophesied.

We need to start a thread for all of the miserable people to air their grievances with the team in so they don't clutter up literally every single thread on here.

Looking back, it seems like Treliving has a history of being a stubborn negotiator when dealing with players that are already under contract (i.e. need re-signing). He pushed gaudreau’s last signing late into training camp. I think he pushed tkachuk’s last contract to almost the start of training camp. Wonder if we’re seeing the same thing here.

- Zadorov will be signed for fair market value
- Gaudreau will resign days into training camp
- Tkachuk will be traded as part of a package for Eichel
- Monahan will be traded next trade deadline for pick + prospect
- For the next two years Flames will be battling hard for top 1-2 spot in the division, making the playoffs but ousted in Round 2, followed by losing in game 7 of the Conference Finals the following year.
- Tre will move into a Hockey Ops position, Mike Futa will be hired as new GM, and Muller will take over as HC after Sutter, with Sutter retained as Advisor.

I'm presuming the Flames are only bringing in Eichel if at least one of Gaudreau and Tkachuk are here long term. With Sutter behind the bench, and a top six that includes Lindholm, Eichel, and Gaudreau/Tkachuk, I just cannot see the Flames finishing bottom 10. Will they become elite and escape the middling of the last almost 20 years...who knows, but I don't see how Sutter would allow the team to finish bottom 10.

Re: eichel. If he's done in Buffalo, and the relationship is beyond repair, why haven't they let him do the procedure he desires in parallel to getting a trade done?

Am curious as to wtf is going regarding the player at this point, both from a surgery perspective (I've heard regardless of which procedures ultimately get done, he needs surgery before playing again) and from a trade perspective (agent seems pretty clear, that a trade out of Buffalo is the only desired outcome).
