Oooooh, I love it when judges get sassy.
Quote:
[88] [...]On hearing my suggestion that an apology would be better offered than the
suggestion that he would “work with” Mr. Lisus to take down old archives,
Mr. Johnston offered an apology to the court for any insult. [89]The issue isn’t a little name calling. I have been called worse by better. The
issue is that Mr. Johnston appears to make a living as a political actor and a
quasi-journalist. I agree with Mr. Lisus who submits that Mr. Johnston uses
language, his intellect, and street smarts to tap into and fan the ugliest
currents in society. In doing so he paints himself as sitting above the rule of
law.

Why didn't he just claim he was a Free Man on the Land? "Your illegitimate monarchy has no power over me!"

Fluoride should never have been removed by a council vote in the first place. Citizens voted to put it in by plebiscite, if it was going to be removed it should have been removed in the same way.
Not that it should have been removed at all, of course.

I wrote my Councillor on this a bit ago - the spin I got wasn't necessarily that fluoride is bad, but that a) it should be a provincial cost as it's for public health, and b) when the decision was made, they had a choice between removing fluoride or the cost of upgrading equipment in order to keep doing it, so they decided on the former.
Either way, the fact it wasn't an election issue/we were blindsided by it never sat well with me, and I hope we vote to bring it back.

The provincial government should mandate Florida in all areas greater than x population.
I wonder what portion of the population has augmented their fluoride with a weekly fluoride rinse.

Is mandating Florida the opposite of martial law?

I’m pretty sure they’ve been doing that since that the moment they were elected.

What happens when you fill a provincial cabinet with "Florida Men" and "Florida Women"? We're living it.

So... the DQ that burned down isn't getting rebuilt. So... Druh was right?

I see. So the landlord burnt it down to clear the way for a sale and a nice payday. Crafty.

He would have been a complete moron not to try and sell an empty, upzoned lot so a DQ could be rebuilt.

Seems strange to bother filing a development permit and the fighting the refusal if you're just going to sell. That wouldn't have been free and would have taken some time.

I don't think the realization of what the land was truly worth really hit until after all the free advertising came.

Neat thing I just found out about in Edmonton.
Instead of the wards having numbers, they gave them Indigenous names.
happened a while ago but I just read about it today.
will take some getting used to but I think it's pretty cool and something maybe Calgary could do, too. good way to learn about the history of our area.

Greasy, two-talking landowners? Quelle surprise!
Maybe the DP was needed for an insurance payout or something? The owner did make multiple statements about how the city was hurting the poor shim family by not letting them rebuild. I guess when they do it, it's ok

I thought it was going to be a bit confusing at first (some of them are a bit hard to pronounce and spell), but now that the campaigns are in full swing here in Edmonton, the Ward names are resonating greatly - and you can more easily associate the candidates with the Ward. The numbers categorization is simple, but often I would lose focus on what other Wards existed outside of my own number.
Props to the City of Edmonton for taking this route.

“Over the last three years they’ve been through so much,” said Shim. “I’ve told them, ‘Hey, we lost money but let’s not focus on that because at the end of the day, we still have people that care for us.’
