Queue the quote from years ago where he is asked by some local interviewer if it would be fun to ever play for his hometown and he politely answers in a way that caters to the audience.
Meanwhile he has said about a hundred times he likes playing here. Which I suppose you could argue is also an answer designed to cater to the audience.
If somebody wants actual objective evidence of where Gaudreau wants to play, I'd look at the two contracts he has signed with the Flames. And hopefully a third one coming up.

I think Burke also had some pretty hard negotiations on the last round, so I don't expect Gaudreau's camp to be easy to negotiate this time around.

The first contract got him a year off his ELC.
The second one was at a time where his options were limited, and only signed for 6 years to ensure he kept his options open.
I would suggest that neither contracts says anything about where aJohnny wants to play.
In each case he signed to increase income and retain flexibility.

If a team is willing to give you great term and dollars you take it. Look what happened to Taylor Hall.

Maybe a poor wording of choice saying that he wants to go.
But I do think that teams in the league have to be wondering if that is where he would like to go.
It is possible that deals that Treliving might have been trying to make have with these two players have not gotten anywhere because other teams have a perception about the futures for Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
As long as no extensions are signed it remains a possibility.
I do however believe that at some point in his career that Gaudreau is going to want to play for the Flyers. Maybe not now, but at some point I think he will want to play out a childhood dream.
By the way I enjoyed your use of the "Like" to start your sentence. Reminded me of the "Valley Girls" from the 80's and their incessant use of the word when they talked.

They are both evidence that he is willing to play in Calgary if the deal is right. They're far from definitive or complete proof of what he wants to do next but more than nothing.

In each case, he had little in the way of options. So, he was willing to play in Calgary when financially it was his only realistic option.
For the first time, he does have other options.

He was a college player and a stud prospect. He could've walked at the very beginning if he wanted to, he was only a year away from that option.
He also could have made his intentions clear at that point, or requested a trade at any point after signing either contract.
Sorry, for the first time he has other options? That's why Adam Fox is on the Flames right now, right? No other options?

He had other options, ask Adam Fox. Stay in school, sign a shorter post ELC deal, request a trade...

Negotiations just got much easier for Johnny
Just point to Nurse’s new contract and tell Treliving to pay up

Why stop there? He should be pointing to Gary Trent jr’s 18M per season deal with the Raptors.
