I disagree.

I think we'll start to see massive inflation starting now. As soon as people can they will be pouring into the stadiums to spend $12 on a beer and $15 on a hot dog. The price of everything is going up.

The cap might go up but will also probably out pace the buying power of a dollar. If the cap goes up by 5%, salaries probably go up by 7% according to my calculations.

Disclaimer: I did not do any calculations.

With this news I feel the Flames need to take advantage of the flat cap. Right now potential escalating contracts in the next few years are

Tkachuk
Gaudreau
Mangiapane
Dube
Valimaki

Lindholm hanifin all prospects on ELCs that are just signed will be such valuable contracts to have. If the Flames don’t get Eichel but still trade Tkachuk they are positioned very well to take advantage of the flat cap in the future

Teams that just tossed out huge money on 8 year deals bringing them right to the cap will struggle to manage escalating contracts unless they have bad ones coming off the books. Teams the Toronto and Edmonton are really going to struggle every summer to figure things out. Tampa will too. Washington too.

You’ve just described the Boomers to a T.

I blame James Neal. Those dentures don’t pay for themselves. And now that SOB will never have to pay back a dime because he’s awful.

Escrow is maxed at 18% next year so I’m not sure why the author of this article is concerned that the players will receive more than 50% of revenue, even using the author’s projections of $4.8B in revenue with $2.9B in salary, taking away 18% of $2.9B would leave salaries just under $2.4B.
You said that the players would NEVER have to make up the delta due to the loss in HRR.

Want something with that crow?

You’ll have to quote where I specifically said that. As I recall, at the time we were discussing the impact on the league and the viability of some markets if the players didn’t take a further pay cut. Which at the time the league demanding and later decided was no longer going to be necessary.

Could you imagine if there still was no mechanism to control salaries / costs?

League would be in some deep ####.

Isn't that more or less the situation with boomers and CPP in Canada? Basically they are going to be sucking the fund dry while the young workers try to keep them afloat?

That is how CPP has always been, it isn't a boomer thing.

While boomers were the working engine of the economy, they were funding it for the older generations. Now it has rolled to them.

the issue is an underfunded CPP, it has nothing to do with any given generation.

But hey, blaming boomers is an artform and national hobby, so carry on.

Anybody that blathers about "CPP not funded" should have BUFFOON tattooed to their forehead.

https://www.cppinvestments.com/the-f...ity-of-the-cpp

I guess you guys don't actually make any money, because CPP contributions have been going up, way up for decades now.

Unlike USA SS, the CPP invests its money, which helps quite a bit with the whole "ponzi scheme".

Wait till you guys learn about OAS and GIS!
