But they only under achieved because they were distracted by all the try hard stuff guys like Bennett and Tkachuk brought. Now there's no more distractions and they can play!

I hope I don't have to green text that.

Those guys were making the country club too noisy.

You mean the guy who hasn't shown up at all in the playoffs or most of last season?

The guy crying that 2x cup champ Sutter didn't play him enough when he was going through the motions?

The Muzzin incident was probably just the tipping point for Tkachuk.

He has not had a lot of support while he's been here from his teammates.

You look at how the Capitals support Wilson, and it's day and night compared to the Flames and Tkachuk. Or even how the Canucks supported Burrows and Kesler and Torres, etc.

Tkachuk has pretty much had to fight his own battles while here. I can only recall about two times where a Flame has had Tkachuks' back:

1) Engelland standing at the line in warm up talking #### to the Kings during the Doughty incident;

2) Ferland stepping in to take on Bieksa when he went after Tkachuk.

Both of those guys are gone and both were good buddies of Tkachuk's.
That's it, all the other times, he's had to fight his own battles. There was no reason for him to fight Kassian. Lucic should have hunted Kassian down at the opening faceoff and beat his face in and if Tkachuk decided he wanted to answer the bell, then Lucic should have had his back and picked a fight with Nurse, an equally important player to the Oilers.

Over the past few seasons, every time a Flame player takes a bad hit, it's Tkachuk who goes after the guy and fights him. Last year, the obvious one was Gaudreau taking the big hit from Holl.

I've long noticed the lack of support from his teammates so I don't think this is a "one time" thing and reaction to the Muzzin incident. He simply does not have the support of his teammates in that dressing room, maybe that's his fault, maybe he is a prick in the dressing room, who knows, but I don't get the sense his teammates like him very much and I don't know if it's all about the on ice.

Maybe there's fault everywhere. Tkachuk is at fault for not picking his spots, but his teammates haven't really been there to support him either.

Any chance Tarasenko and Zadorov are buds?

As opposed to all those other guys who were just killing it.

You can also sense the anger in his "No" when asked about contract talks.

The Flames as a whole haven't shown up for the playoffs, but I'm not sure we should be shipping out the one player who has trended up in virtually every season since being drafted after his first poor season.

He isn't trending to live up to a 9M contract

Haha. Reminds me of Keith's old rant about playing against "Brian Sutter chicken #### hockey". Maybe that hatred runs deep.

But the guy that supposedly gives a #### can talk the talk but certainly didn't walk the walk. The minute he starts playing the rat he gets so rattled that his play falls off a cliff.

I'd rather a player show me on the score sheet than in the post game interview.

Can he turn into this player? Maybe, but that's an expensive gamble.

70 point, defensively responsible, play driving Tkachuk probably is.

If you think his trend down this season is indicative of his future performance, then that is a different discussion.

I wouldn't pay a 70 point player 9M....it's not like his defensive game is spectacular he is a terrible skater

We're probably about to pay Gaudreau close to 9m a year and he's a one dimensional player who's been playing scared for two seasons now with dropping point totals.

Despite his down performance, he still pushed play better than any other forward on this team this season.

It's not 2009. $9 million AAV isn't 20% of the cap anymore.

If you think this down season is a trend, fine, I can't argue the future.

But trading the guy on performance alone will be a mistake and the Flames will lose any trade that involves him.

Doubt it on 9M and Gaudreau was way better than Tkachuk last season

Ok, but he's a 70 point player that brings nothing else. And it will be 8+ for sure unless it's a really long deal. Which is also a mistake.

9M is a 90 point player...Tkachuk is a 60-70 point player IMO

Freaking out after you already lost isn't my idea of bringing it
