What about sending him to Ottawa instead of STL?
Tkachuk and Zary/Pelletier for Stuzle and 2022 1st
 Backlund, Zary/Pelletier, our 2022 1st and Ottawa's 2022 1st for Eichel

 Gaudreau Eichel Mangiapane
 Coleman Monahan Lindholm
 Lucic Stuzle Dube
 Yadda Yadda Yadda

Edit: Plus we'd have a boatload of cap space from shipping both Tkachuck and Backlund out... maybe another trade swapping Monahan+ for a top six RW? (Like maybe Nylander?)

Ottawa ain't trading Stutzle. He's the face of their franchise and the most important player for their future.

If this plays out with Tkachuk leaving town under these circumstances…Calgary foolishly booed Dion at the Dome for years and years.
Tkachuk will become an absolute villain in the Dome.

Honestly this just gets me back to where I was a couple of weeks ago. I used to be under the belief that the only chance of getting Eichel here is using Tkachuk as a trade chip. I had convinced myself that maybe a heavier futures package around Monahan could work for both sides and would work better for the Flames as they could send out a truly elite top line and top 6.
I am just now back in the thought process that we need to use Tkachuk as our main trade chip and I think it should be easier to get a deal done that way.

People also saying “why would the Blues give up anything for Tkachuk now when they have him for free in 2 years” I don’t think that id a risk the Blues have interest in taking. The Flames could send Tkachuk to many markets that I think would have a shot at extending him. California (doubtful due to division), New York, Florida/Tampa, Boston, Philly, Pittsburgh etc all will have interest. The Blues are also a team that is aging quickly but still have some solid pieces in their prime so getting Tkachuk now makes sense to push to win ASAP and get Tkachuk at 23 years old.

Tarasenko will not come to Calgary and is not part of this deal in my opinion. He is the first domino to fall. Once he is moved out then I see a situation where the Flames work a 3 way deal with the Sabres and Blues or 2 separate deals

Fair... but both Tkachuks!

Ps. Stuzle stood out to me as someone I would want, just from watching the CGY OTT games.... but I didn't know he was that good and considered the face of the franchise. I thought that was B. Tkachuk.

Edit: Just looked him up... I didn't even realize he was a 3rd overall pick... yikes. No wonder he looked really good out there lol.

Does anyone think Tkachuk is a 9M player?
 Marchand makes 6.1M

If you compare Marchand’s contract to anyone else’s, 95% of players are overpaid…

Matthew Tkachuk’s salary if he progresses into a 70 pt player with all his intangibles is an 8.5MM player.

The salary cap was continuing to rise, it was also part of that inflation. Flat cap is more a 7.5-8. How much money do you pay for between the leg goals?

Barring any epic season by Tkachuk, he isn’t worth 9m .

However, you can’t really compare his contract to Marchand, even if they play identical games.

Marchand signed his 8 year deal after having 61 points in 77 games in 15/16. He’s been a PPG player since that deal was signed. Had he not signed that deal prior to the start of 16/17 where he really started to break out, I think he could’ve easily made +10% if not more on his current contract.

Not terrible but I'd rather if we traded for a natural RWer instead of playing Monahan. If centers truly are more valuable than wingers, we should be able to improve the 2nd line a lot by moving him.

Mix and match the bottom six as much as you want.

There everyone slots right into the place best. Not over reaching.

Fair for Marchand but I have a hard time with Tkachuk at 8.5 too.

This team is pretty hard to cheer for. A bunch of spineless underachievers chasing out one of the only guys that gives a ####.
Better take the side of the underachievers though, it's the Flames way.

Who knows if any of this is true...I would trade Tkachuk for cap/hockey reasons if the return is close to the rumors
