Treliving has talked to Gaudreau about an extension.

 Treliving is trying really hard.

Well I would hope so.

Im getting bad feels about how this ends now.

Why wouldn't Johnny just walk it to UFA at this point? See what the other offers are and can always circle back to the Flames if that's what he wants more than moving.

As for Murray...it makes sense. Things on the left side are pretty iffy after Hanifin. Valimaki/Mackey could both blossom and be fine full time this year or both could struggle...just do not know yet. Murray would have to cost North of 4M per year though I would guess.

This Eichel thing has to come to a head one way or the other.

Does it, though? He is disgruntled but is still contractually obligated to Buffalo for several years.

On the Flames side, I’ll agree. Tre does have to decide how to allocate his cap and to set his roster

Thought from the all wise HAT.

Sums up what a lot of the fans on here are feeling.

Most often, it can leave a team stuck in an endless middle ground of mediocrity, with little risk of reaching the NHL floor, but also little hope of competing at the top end.

Lately, it’s been the disrupters — Carolina, Florida under Bill Zito, Columbus under Jarmo Kekalainen and Arizona — that have all meaningfully reshaped their rosters. Every club in that quartet is at a different developmental stage — Florida and Carolina look like Stanley Cup contenders. Columbus has stopped the bleeding and Arizona is investing in a longer play.

But if you’re a fan of those teams, you at least have to applaud the initiative they’ve shown in these last two weeks."

Wasn't sure where to put this but here are my paraphrased coles notes from Brad on the Fan this morning with Rob Kerr.
 Brad:
-it is a busy time, the last little stretch has been very busy, we tend to jam everything together. But we have more work to do.
-not surprised at how busy things have been but the flat cap has played a big part. Trying to project out.
-little unsure how the market would react with all the lost revenues.
-these defenseman signings, the overall market has been the biggest surprise.
--said "WOW" the term was big and money was big.
-there is truth to the Canadian disadvantages.
 -but every market has challenges.
-we talk to the players about embracing it.
 -it is not for everyone.
-we talk about the benefits of the market and the city, we think it's a real honor.
-social media has made a real impact.
 -but its nothing new.
-we've made some changes, losing Gio is a difficult loss, big loss, never going to go out and just replace him.
-looked at lots of different options, will try to replace him by committee.
 - then focused on RW, speaking very highly of Coleman.
-Pitlick and Lewis, 2 positions play up and down the lineup.
-deeper up front. Guys who play the way we want to play.
-tried to plug the holes but we are certainly not done, still want to makes changes.
-the blueline is still an area we need to address.
-really excited about Vladar and he is the backup.
-the young kids have to play a part in getting better and helping replace Gio.
-praises Andersson, Hanifin. Talks about how young they still are.
 -Valimaki, great upside.
-Mangiapane great steps and Dillon Dube..
 -internal growth is crucial.
-we tried for a long time to try to make sure Gio wouldn't leave us.
-we just couldn't pay that price, it would have been bad for the organization.
 -we made the right decision.
-lots of excitement about new players but we have a few weeks before camp, still need to get better, still some work to do.
-really no down time, we are still picking away here but things have slowed but we are having trade discussions trying to pick away at it.

I know the Bleacher report stinks for hockey but they have a bargain UFA listhttps://bleacherreport.com/articles/...am-should-sign
The 2 that I am interested in are Ritchie and Murray and the article speculates that they should expect 1.5-2.5M per for each which I would be really happy with as a flames fan.

I do worry that after those moves that would be it for the summer but the roster would be deeper than last year upfront and still concerning on the back end.

I was a little disappointed in Kerr not asking (in my listening) him about the Gaudreau situation. I'm finding it really strange that franchise player of the organization is a year from free agency and it's crickets. I'm hoping it's because a signing is close but this is something he simply cannot mismanage and to me should be the biggest story right now around the organization.

If he hits training camp without a deal I have no doubt it becomes one of the biggest storylines of the season

It's because his interviews are always boring. Darryl was a man of few words but would give out little nuggets that you had to decipher for yourself, Feaster loved to tell everyone his grand plans, and Brad can spend 30 minutes telling you absolutely nothing you didn't know already.

Darryl is the GM now anyhow - let him talk. I miss his nuggets of folksy wisdom.

We get to hear him way more as the coach. Love his press conferences especially when the team is playing well

I always find it strange how long these negotiations take. Obviously it can be complicated but I always feels like if the agent and team spent a full day at an office working on it, it could be done that quickly.

Treliving has likely accepted that if you are going to sign him, it will likely be for 8 years and will likely include some kind of NMC/NTC. So once you have those things in place, it’s finding comparable numbers around the league.

I think the final number is $8 million. Gaudreau’s camp might be asking for $9 million while the flames are likely offering $7 million.

Obviously I’m over-simplifying it. It’s a complicated process that every team/player goes through. Just frustrating that if both the team and the player want to get this done, it should be easier to get it done.
