Meh. Any fourth-line plug can put up 30-30 in the right environment.
All he has to do is bring a Winchester to the firing range….

Here are some:
NHL Hall of Famers:
Grant Fuhr
Doug Gilmour
Phil Housley
Brett Hull
Al MacInnis
Sergei Makarov
Lanny McDonald
Joe Mullen
Joe Nieuwendyk
Retired Flames Numbers
Lanny McDonald
Jarome Iginla
Mike Vernon
Others who have accomplished far more:
Theo Fleury
Mikka Kiprusoff
Gary Roberts
Martin St. Louis
Jaromir Jagr
Mark Giordano.
There are certainly others who could be considered better players by the time Eichel's career is up.

I mean, you're not wrong, but neither is he (at least proportionally to the backlash he's receiving). Is everyone missing that he said potential? Eichel absolutely has the potential. It sounds like you're arguing whether or not it's already occurred or whether its likely. I'm not sure that's what he was saying.. If my opinion matters here, I think it's unlikely, but I think he certainly has the potential to make some waves in this regard.
FWIW I also think he meant production in a flames sweater as opposed to drudging out Jagr's or St. Louis' entire career outside of the flames.
Also FWIW his numbers are pretty similar to Jarmoe's first 5 years in the league.
Anyways point being, our poster friend could probably pump the breaks on the cup parade, but y'all could be a little more forgiving on the other side of the coin too.

Jesus, I said “potential” to be the best ever. I’m in my mid 30s, and as much as I love Iggy, I certainly hope that some day another Flame surpasses him as the best… don’t you?

You all are too quick to ship out Monahan! He has his flaws, isn't an elite #1 C, but he is a good player to have in the top 6. I chalk last year up as a bad year, plagued with injuries.
How about we find a way to keep Monahan and also add Eichel? If that lame NYR offer is the stiffest competition we face, it should be possible.
I hope they find a way to get a deal done by sending a couple very high picks and good prospects to Buffalo. Maybe two 1st round picks, Zary, and Valamaki?
Keep Monahan. He and Lindholm can be on the 2nd line with Mangiapane; move either Monahan or Lindholm to the wing. We'd have 2 great lines out of our top 6, for the first time in a long time.
There must be a salary dump move that can make the cap math work.

I hope we get Eichel, but I’m just wondering if there’s any talk that we’re in here and anything that substantiates this? Seems like this thread is mostly us hoping we’re in and piecing together trade proposals on our own.

Monny has a 10 team no trade list. No chance he’s going to Buffalo….

Yeah this thread reeks of desperation.
I am honestly worried about some people's mental health if Eichel ends up somewhere else, especially Vegas.

Why do people say things like this? You have no idea where he would go.

There is nothing concrete to this. Some basic media speculation that mentioned Calgary a couple times, but plenty of other speculation that did not mention Calgary at all. Right now it is all wishful thinking and speculation by the fans. It’s reminiscent of the mental gymnastics Oiler fans go through every year to add the next piece that is sure to push them over the top, moves that never materialize. This is pure fantasy at this point. To me, the more important things are getting Gaudreau to sign an extension, getting Tkachuk to sign an extension, and getting Zadorov’s autograph on a contract. Get the current roster locked in and ready to start camp, then worry about the other shenanigans.

Monahan’s problem started 2.5 seasons ago not just last year
He is one of the few expendable pieces on the team that has value. That’s why you hear his name all the time

There have been lots of reports that included Calgary, so it's hardly 'mental gymnastics Oiler fans go through', or 'pure fantasy'. The guy IS going to be traded, and Calgary appears to be one of the teams that are seriously looking into it and having discussions with Buffalo. And considering how big a player Eichel is, of course it is a primary discussion topic.
Also, getting other players signed does not preclude the Flames from working on this. Also, if the Flames are serious about trying to acquire Eichel, it would have massive cap implications, so it makes sense to look at it now, as it would potentially affect how they approach Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

Gaudreau signed.
Eichel brought in for a few assets going the other way including Monahan.
Lindholm stays at C
Sutter-style bottom 6
Bobs your uncle. First in the division.

There is a bit of a summary in the trade thread but nothing other than the flames are one of the interested teams

There's no possible way he'd bait the market whose radio station he's on.

Perhaps for Calgary, a strong start to the season for guys like Monahan or Dube is what's needed to showcase their health/perfance in an Eichel trade. Assuming Eichel will be missing part of next season, the timeline for a trade may not be game 1, but rather game 35-40

There is no possible way the Flames are actually in trade talks with Buffalo.

Yeah, I could see it. I have kind of been expecting that a trade might not happen until training camp or shortly thereafter. This really feels like something that no one is rushing into, which is fine.

I’m not sure if Eichel is going to get his surgery with Buffalo. And then the Flames might not get that surgery / LTIR / playoff addition / Cup win arc to play out !
